Eddie McGuire has broken his silence on Karl Stefanovic’s axing from their radio show, The Long Weekend, just one month after its launch.
The radio presenter addressed the issue on Friday, confirming Stefanovic’s exit.
“As extensively reported this week, my co-host and friend Karl Stefanovic will no longer be part of The Long Weekend show, as he dedicates the next phase of his amazingly successful career to his podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show,” McGuire said.
He then went on to say a personal message to his former co-host and friend.
“I wish Karl the best of luck as his storied and ever-colourful media journey continues.
“Good on you, Karlos. It was short and sweet, mate, and I wish you all the best.”
Last week, ARN had axed Stefanovic from their network, just days after he was axed from his longtime role as host of the Today show, following his controversial podcast interview with Tommy Robinson.
According to the AFR, the network terminated Stefanovic’s contract, estimated to be worth $200,000.
The weekly programme will be reframed and focus on McGuire, alongside Georgia Love and Toni Tenaglia.
The update comes after Stefanovic opened up about the impact of it on his family in an interview with Piers Morgan.
At the time, he said that the hardest thing was seeing his wife’s reaction to the news.
“She puts up with a lot. Her finding out this stuff and having to deal with me because I’m a lot and I’m in the public eye a lot, and I’m away a lot and I really do work hard,” he said.
“She knows what I’m trying to do with this podcast and I’m doing it all for the family but she’s on her own a lot.
“To hear her upset was the hardest thing.”
