Chrissie Swan celebrates incredible milestone

<p>Chrissie Swan has marked a big health milestone, taking to Instagram to celebrate her achievement that she doesn't talk about much publicly. </p> <p>The TV presenter revealed that she has been alcohol-free for 1000 days. </p> <p>“I don’t talk much about giving up the booze because it’s such a personal thing and not right for everyone – also I don’t feel comfortable encouraging people to do anything they haven’t arrived at themselves,”  she admitted in her post. </p> <p>She added that after 1000 days she knows "for sure it has been the right thing for me so I’m putting this here for anyone who’s thinking that maybe drinking isn’t fun anymore."</p> <p>"I love love love being able to drive everywhere, leave places whenever I like and especially ESPECIALLY going to bed knowing I’ve been the most authentic version of myself AND waking up excited about another brilliant day," she said. </p> <p>She revealed that she never had a “massive, long standing” problem with alcohol, but had found herself consuming it more during the lockdowns. </p> <p>“I just knew it had to go. It was actually quite easy for me and the positives started within the first week. Mainly – relief. And the clarity and focus I needed to return to my original self and get to work."</p> <p>"I don’t miss drinking one bit and now I never even think about it," she added. </p> <p>"I am proud of myself as well - which is a sparkling and meaningful thing.</p> <p>“In truth – every aspect of my life, energy, positivity and relationships have become so much better in every way since that day,” she wrote.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 540px; min-width: 326px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);" data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/CzE38-jyyIp/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14"> <div style="padding: 16px;"> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; align-items: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 40px; margin-right: 14px; width: 40px;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 100px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 60px;"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="padding: 19% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: block; height: 50px; margin: 0 auto 12px; width: 50px;"> </div> <div style="padding-top: 8px;"> <div style="color: #3897f0; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 550; line-height: 18px;">View this post on Instagram</div> </div> <div style="padding: 12.5% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; margin-bottom: 14px; align-items: center;"> <div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(0px) translateY(7px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; height: 12.5px; transform: rotate(-45deg) translateX(3px) translateY(1px); width: 12.5px; flex-grow: 0; margin-right: 14px; margin-left: 2px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(9px) translateY(-18px);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: 8px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 20px; width: 20px;"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 2px solid transparent; border-left: 6px solid #f4f4f4; border-bottom: 2px solid transparent; transform: translateX(16px) translateY(-4px) rotate(30deg);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: auto;"> <div style="width: 0px; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-right: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(16px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; flex-grow: 0; height: 12px; width: 16px; transform: translateY(-4px);"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-left: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(-4px) translateX(8px);"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center; margin-bottom: 24px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 224px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 144px;"> </div> </div> <p style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; margin-bottom: 0; margin-top: 8px; overflow: hidden; padding: 8px 0 7px; text-align: center; text-overflow: ellipsis; white-space: nowrap;"><a style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CzE38-jyyIp/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A post shared by Chrissie Swan (@chrissieswan)</a></p> </div> </blockquote> <p>A few of her celebrity friends took to the comments to congratulate the<em> Masked Singer</em> star on her achievement. </p> <p>“Congrats mate. Chris Smith reveals new gig after 75 days sober

<p>Broadcaster Chris Smith is set to return to radio with a new position at <em>TNT Radio</em>. </p> <p>The news comes only two months after the 60-year-old radio host lost his positions with both <em>Sky News </em>and <em>2GB </em>for <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/chris-smith-suspended-after-christmas-party-allegations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">misconduct</a> at a work Christmas party. The update coincides with Chris’s 75th day of <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/chris-smith-breaks-silence" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sobriety</a>. </p> <p>In a post shared to his social media accounts, Chris shared what the career lifeline meant to him and promised to share more information with his supporters that same night, writing, “a new job, a new start, a whole new opportunity”.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 540px; min-width: 326px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);" data-instgrm-captioned="" data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/Co87UA3v17o/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14"> <div style="padding: 16px;"> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; align-items: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 40px; margin-right: 14px; width: 40px;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 100px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 60px;"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="padding: 19% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: block; height: 50px; margin: 0 auto 12px; width: 50px;"> </div> <div style="padding-top: 8px;"> <div style="color: #3897f0; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 550; line-height: 18px;">View this post on Instagram</div> </div> <div style="padding: 12.5% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; margin-bottom: 14px; align-items: center;"> <div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(0px) translateY(7px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; height: 12.5px; transform: rotate(-45deg) translateX(3px) translateY(1px); width: 12.5px; flex-grow: 0; margin-right: 14px; margin-left: 2px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(9px) translateY(-18px);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: 8px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 20px; width: 20px;"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 2px solid transparent; border-left: 6px solid #f4f4f4; border-bottom: 2px solid transparent; transform: translateX(16px) translateY(-4px) rotate(30deg);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: auto;"> <div style="width: 0px; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-right: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(16px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; flex-grow: 0; height: 12px; width: 16px; transform: translateY(-4px);"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-left: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(-4px) translateX(8px);"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center; margin-bottom: 24px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 224px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 144px;"> </div> </div> <p style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; margin-bottom: 0; margin-top: 8px; overflow: hidden; padding: 8px 0 7px; text-align: center; text-overflow: ellipsis; white-space: nowrap;"><a style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Co87UA3v17o/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A post shared by Chris Smith (@thenewchrissmith)</a></p> </div> </blockquote> <p>It was later revealed that he would be joining the team at <em>TNT Radio</em>, returning to air every weekday at 3pm. Many were thrilled by the news, celebrating alongside the disgraced host, and asking where they could tune in for the content they’d been missing. </p> <p>One, however, had a different take, sharing his exasperation at how many times he’d heard about the new opportunity. Chris, who had tweeted multiple times about when and where he could be heard in 2023, responded that it was “2 stories.” </p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">Just twice David. 2 stories <a href="https://t.co/OYP2XPn0n3">https://t.co/OYP2XPn0n3</a></p> <p>— Chris Smith (@chrissmithonair) <a href="https://twitter.com/chrissmithonair/status/1628361763359191040?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 22, 2023</a></p></blockquote> <p>Chris also spoke to <em>The Daily Mail </em>about his return, and opened up to them about his sobriety journey in the wake of his December scandal. </p> <p>“In previous times where I've stuffed up binge drinking,” he said, “I never had the guts nor probably the guidance to be able to give up drinking.</p> <p>“I never had the advice, I'd never had the guts to do what I should have done, which was to give it up completely. I've never given up more than three weeks. I could never do it. I thought I could control it, as I thought I could control it in December, but I can't.”</p> <p>When asked if he would ever touch alcohol again, he stated “never, ever.” </p> <p>“I don’t need it. I'm angry with it,” he continued. “It's not just the big incidents that have occurred in my life. It's also the reliance on alcohol - on an almost daily basis - which I've also had.</p> <p>“It negatively impacts my family, my wife, my kids. I don't need that anymore.”</p> <p>He went on to explain that he has learned his lesson when it comes to mixing his medication with drink, and that he has “removed the wild card prospect of behaving like an adolescent.” </p> <p>Of his new mentality, and what it could mean for his work ahead, he said, “it's a great relief for me and it's a great start to hopefully another stage of a career without drama … I feel as if I'm on a really positive trajectory now and I don't feel as if I'm a danger to myself or a danger to anyone else.”</p> <p><em>Images: Instagram</em></p>

Scott Morrison's sober admission after chaotic scenes in Kabul

<p>Scott Morrison has made a somber warning that Australia's rescue mission in Afghanistan will fall short. </p> <p>The Prime Minister confirmed that work was underway on Tuesday, but said the assignment won't reach "all that it should", as he urged veterans to not lose faith in the government. </p> <p>The evacuation expedition is ongoing in Kabul, as the government works to liberate both Australian and Afghan workers amid the ongoing crisis. </p> <p>Scott Morrison insisted that the government has a rescue mission plan, but declined to go into further details.</p> <p><span>“I want to thank all of those who have been working tirelessly to ensure that we can put these plans safely in place, to make sure that we can follow through, not just on the care that we have provided to citizens in these situations but, of course, the many Afghan nationals who will be making Australia their home,” Mr Morrison said.</span></p> <p><span>He went on to say he has spoken to veterans who are concerned for their safety, and insists everything possible is being done. </span></p> <p><span>He said, “I want you to know that we will continue to do everything we can for those who have with us, as we have to this day. How this “perfectly sober” driver blew over the limit

<p>When Chris from Melbourne was stopped for an RBT at lunchtime on Australia Day, he thought he had nothing to worry about – after all, he hadn’t had a single drink.</p> <p>So imagine his shock when the breathalyser returned a reading of 0.05.</p> <p>“I was pretty much, ‘ah, what, when, how, ‘cause I haven't had a drink,’” he told <a href="https://au.news.yahoo.com/sunrise/a/38843012/how-a-perfectly-sober-melbourne-man-blew-over-the-limit/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>7 News</strong></span></a>.</p> <p>He even began to panic that the reading was from the one drink he’d consumed the night before. “I was terrified, it gave me such a fright because you get asked to turn the car off, you have to get out of the car in front of all the other traffic, and a police officer moves your car off to the side of the road – it was embarrassing.”</p> <p>Incredibly, it wasn’t a stubbie or glass of vino that pushed Chris over the limit, but rather Bonjela, a product used for soothing the gums of teething babies which, unbeknownst to him, contains a small amount of alcohol.</p> <p><img width="500" height="280" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7267894/rbt3_500x280.jpg" alt="Rbt3" style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"/></p> <p>“While I was in the queue I put some Bonjela on an ulcer I had on my tongue, and a couple of minutes later when I was breath tested I blew over the limit,” Chris explained.</p> <p>It was only after being questioned by police that he realised the ointment was the cause of his boozy result.</p> <p>“I’m still really surprised, I just assumed a product for babies wouldn’t have had alcohol in it,” Chris told reporters.</p> <p>According to the Victoria Police, however, such incidents aren’t all that uncommon – although secondary tests are always undertaken to confirm the reading.</p> <p>“A positive breath test reading can be caused by the presence of residual alcohol in a person’s mouth, if a person has used mouthwash, breath spray or certain medicines that contain alcohol,” the police said in a statement.</p> <p>Chris’ advice?</p> <p>“If you are going to put Bonjela on, make sure it’s 15 minutes before you drive.”</p> <p><em>Image credit: 7 News.</em></p>

Grant Hackett still in hiding after being reported missing

<p>Grant Hackett’s father has told media outside his home that Grant is in “sober and safe” condition.</p> <p>The news comes a day after <strong><a href="http://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/2017/02/grant-hacketts-family-speak-out-following-his-arrest/"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Grant’s arrest at his parents’ home for being verbally abusive and agitated</span></a>.</strong></p> <p>After Grant was released without charge yesterday, the family later reported the Olympic champion missing on Thursday afternoon.</p> <p> Grant’s father, Nev, has told media that the family had grown closer during this time and that they are only concerned with Grant’s wellbeing.</p> <p>"He's sober. They haven't told us where he is. It doesn't matter. As long as he's alive.
