Camper trailer stolen with couple still asleep inside

A young couple are relieved to be alive after their camper trailer was stolen while they slept inside.

After a long day of driving, Brock Momcilovic, his girlfriend Jedha Kinder and their two dogs were camping overnight in their trailer attached to a four-wheel vehicle at the Cumberland River rest stop on the Great Ocean Road.

Ms Kinder was jolted awake to the sound of the car engine starting just before midnight.

She jumped off the bed into the annex area between the trailer and the car, while Mr Momcilovic was thrown backwards from the momentum.

Ms Kinder and the two dogs were dragged 200 metres up the road before falling out on to the road where she suffered bruising and gravel rash, as the dogs fled in the chaos.

The carjacker then drove for 8km down the road, as Mr Momcilovic held on for dear life.

"I sort of just laid there because I thought it was a dream," Mr Momcilovic told ABC Radio Melbourne.

But quickly reality kicked in during the incident as Mr Momcilovic realised he had his phone handy.

"I rang triple-0 while I was holding on," he said.

"I was actually on Google Maps while on the phone to the operator telling her where we were heading."

As Mr Momcilovic continued to hold on, he didn't know if his girlfriend or their dogs were okay, and he had no way of checking.

"I was worried if I fell off, I was going to be pretty well done," he said.

The car eventually slowed down enough for Mr Momcilovic to jump off the vehicle, before the car was abandoned near a nearby police station after the clutch blew out, with the carjacker taking off on foot with the keys in hand.

The couple's dogs were found a day apart, one was found at the campsite, the other near a cliff, and have since been reunited.

The couple have urged campers not to leave their keys in the car, with Mr Momcilovic saying, "It could have been a lot worse."

Transformers trailer sparks fury online

Transformers released a string of teasers and behind-the-scenes footage ahead of the June premiere of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - but quickly stripped a scene that appeared reminiscent of the September 11 attacks.

The seventh Transformers movie in the franchise is set to hit Aussie cinemas on June 22, and Transformers shared an extended trailer that showed the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre surrounded by black smoke, according to the New York Post.

The scene’s evocation of 9/11 shocked viewers and many didn’t believe the image could be affiliated with a Transformers movie.

“This image certainly made me stop scrolling,” wrote Twitter user Daniel Kibblesmith, alongside the jarring screenshot from the trailer.

Kibblesmith’s tweet attracted more than 2.5 million views in less than 24 hours after being posted.

Transformers’ caption read, “It’s about to be epic. Go behind the scenes with our cast and crew, and meet the new characters of Transformers.”

As of May 23, the post no longer appears to be on the franchise’s Twitter page.

The nearly two-minute teaser features Anthony Ramos, who stars in Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts as Noah Diaz, an ex-military electronics specialist living in Brooklyn, New York.

“This is about to be epic. This is about to be epically crazy,” Ramos said in the behind-the-scenes clip.

The footage shows a peaceful NYC skyline with the Twin Towers before abruptly cutting to a shot of the Statue of Liberty in the foreground and the World Trade Centre covered in thick smoke in the background.

Steven Caple Jr, the movie’s director clarifies in the clip that the upcoming movie is “in chronological order, is the second Transformers movie – it takes place during the ’90s”.

“I didn’t think that it was possible, but here I am, even less interested than ever in seeing a Transformers movie. They’ve done it again, the mad genii,” one Twitter wrote.

“This could have been easily avoided if they’d picked literally any other city besides New York,” another tweeted.

“That is … an unfortunate shot,” yet another said of the upsetting image, while another said it was “too soon”.

“Some lowlife took our home”: Retirees wake to devastating theft

Retirees Sue and Tony Hill have been living out of a campervan and driving it on the Big Lap around Australia. They returned home to North Adelaide recently to stop in and visit family when disaster struck.

Their home was stolen right from under their noses.

"I came out Monday morning around 7.30 ish and it was gone,” Sue Hill told NineNews. "Some lowlife took our home ... Our life has just been ripped out from under us.”

The grey nomad couple, who had spent their retirement savings to buy the camper trailer for their Big Lap around the country, were absolutely distraught – but now an incredible act of charity has given them new hope, and a brand new trailer to call home.

"We'd given up hope that we'd ever get back on the road again, which is what we love doing. We'd given up hope that we'd ever get our camper trailer back," Mrs Hill said.

But then the owner of local business Eagle Camper Trailers – Brent – heard about the plight of the Hills and just had to act.

"I heard it, I watched it and I thought 'I can't believe this'," Brent told NineNews.

"The fact that someone had taken their home, I needed to try and do something to sort it out."

The Hills also turned to social media to try and track down the stolen trailer or the thieves, with no luck.

"I've been on the truckie pages trying to get the truckies of Australia to help," Sue and Tony's daughter Janene Harper said.

"Through COVID and the rental crisis, they lived homeless for more than 12 months," she said, on the family’s Facebook fundraiser page.

"They decided to invest every last dollar they had to purchase a portable home, something they could call home. They were required to sell most of their belongings to be able to move in."

The Hills are now incredibly thankful to Brent at Eagle Camper Trailers for his generosity, and for helping to put them back on their feet and into a new home.

Images: NineNews

Kyrgios’ Wimbledon win overshadowed by assault allegations

Nick Kyrgios’ spectacular win into his first ever grand slam semi final at Wimbledon was ambushed by reporters wanting to know about his ex-girlfriend’s assault allegations.

The Australian smashed Cristian Garin 6-4 6-3 7-6 (7-5) in two hours and 13 minutes on Wednesday - less than 24 hours after the news broke about the alleged assault.

Reporters however did not care so much about Kyrgios’ extraordinary win, who is the first Australian man into the semis at Wimbledon since Lleyton Hewitt in 2005.

Instead they asked him about being charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari.

“I have a lot of thoughts and things I want to say, my side of it,” Kyrgios said.

“But I’ve been advised by my lawyers that I can’t say anything about it at this time.”

He explained that he was only human and the news affected him a bit, but he was focusing on the game instead.

“It didn’t really affect me at all, to be honest with you. Obviously seeing it ... I’m only human,” he continued.

“Obviously I read about it and everybody else was asking questions. It was hard to focus on the mission at hand (which) was the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.

“I know deep down that’s what I was prepared for (and) it didn’t really affect my preparation at all. I knew I would stay true to myself and give my best performance today.”

Kyrgios also said at one point he was “almost done with the sport” saying his mental health got the better of him.

“There was a point I was almost done with the sport,” he admitted.

“I was self-harming, I had suicidal thoughts.”

“To be a semi-finalist at Wimbledon now, if you had asked anyone if I could do that they would have said no.

“Doesn't have the mental capacity, doesn't have the physical capacity, doesn't have the stamina. Avatar sequel trailer released 13 years after first movie

A teaser trailer for the sequel to Avatar has been released almost 13 years after the first movie broke box office records.

In just one day since the Avatar: The Way of Water trailer came out, it has reached more than four million views (correct at time of publishing).

Fans are given a glimpse of what to expect in the exciting sequel which is set to drop in cinemas later in December around the world.

The sequel, which is also set more than a decade after the first movie, will follow the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids) and the trouble that keeps following them and how they fight to keep each other alive.

Director and producer James Cameron had previously announced that he has plans for a total of six movies for the Avatar series and that he had already begun filming for the fourth film.

"Anything that had to be done with a specific actor, we did all the scenes for 2 and 3 together – and a little bit of 4," he told Variety.

"I had to shoot the kids out. They're allowed to age six years in the middle of the story on page 25 of movie 4. So I needed everything before then, and then everything after, we'll do later."

Fans can expect to wait just one year after Avatar: The Way of Water to see the third installment with the fourth movie a year after that, and Avatar 5 for December 2026 and the final film in 2028.

Watch the trailer here.

Image: 20th Century Studios

How to make the most of your super as you retire or semi-retire

The transition from working life to retirement or semi-retirement is different for each individual.

If you decide to keep working, it is important that you know you can access some of your super while you’re still working, once you have reached “preservation age” – the age at which you can access your super.

With a transition to retirement stream (TTRS) strategy, you can begin receiving an income from your super once you reach your preservation age, even if you haven’t permanently retired.

The benefits of TTRS include your income payments being generally tax free, if you’re 60 or over.

Another benefit is being able to continue to grow your super if you’re still working, and using your TTRS payments to top up your take-home pay, so you can work less or save more.

There are, however, some rules if you do want to transition into a retirement stream, which your super business can assist you with.

The rules include:

You generally can’t make lump sum withdrawals.

You must receive between 2% and 10% of your TRIS balance each year.

Drawing from your super now could mean you have a lower balance when you fully retire.

While you’re under 60 years of age, your TRIS payments will be subject to tax – any taxable component will be taxed at your marginal tax rate less a 15% offset. From 60, you don’t pay any tax on income payments from your super.

Earnings in your TRIS receive the same concessional tax treatment as your super – earnings are taxed at up to 15%.

Image: Shutterstock

Hollywood A-lister made Hugh Jackman clean up vomit in his trailer

The Hollywood star wasn’t happy when Hugh Jackman’s best mate since kindergarten – Gus Worland - vomited in his trailer and he made the Aussie actor clean it up.

Worland recapped the whole story on KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show today and then he challenged listeners to call in and guess who the Hollywood star was.

The incident happened in the earlier days of Jackman’s career when Worland was visiting Jackman on a movie set. One of Jackman’s co-stars invited them both to have a drink in his “much bigger trailer”.

Worland said he walked into the trailer “… and it’s got a Cuban cigar in each corner with a cigar cutter … and there’s a tub of drinks and stuff.”

“We sit down and start having a conversation and I’m struggling to get the words out because I’m so excited that I’m in his company,” Worland said about Jackman’s co-star.

Worland’s nerves got the better of him and he said he was “drinking a little bit too quickly” and he found himself not feeling well, he said on the radio show.

“Jacko’s looking at me going: ‘Are you OK, mate?’ I said, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine.”

But he wasn’t. He added: “I’m smoking this cigar, I’m drinking these drinks and I’m hammered within an hour. I just go, ‘Oh no, I can’t hold this.’ I tried to shimmy out of the horseshoe [table] set up … which is a difficult thing to do … and I don’t quite get to the door of the trailer and I throw up everywhere.”

Worland said that Jackman found it fairly funny but the other celebrity didn’t have the same sense of humour about the situation and he told Jackman he’d have to clean the whole thing up.

“That takes Jacko about 20 minutes,” Worland recalled.

Kyle Sandilands asked Worland: “He got Hugh Jackman to mop up your chunder?”

“Yeah,” Worland said.

So, who was the Hollywood A-lister who wasn’t impressed?

Eventually a listener called through with the right answer – it was John Travolta and it was when Travolta and Jackman were filming Swordfish.

Worland was on the Kyle and Jackie O Show to promote a new initiative for his Gotcha4Life Foundation called the ‘Mind Your Mate’ campaign.

“I want everyone to write down a list of all the people in their life that they love and actually go to our website gotcha4life.org and pledge your mateship to them,” Worland said. “And I can send you some tips and tricks to make sure your relationship is stronger than ever before.”

Gotcha4Life is an Australian mental fitness charity which Worland set up which takes action to engage, educate and empower people to improve their mental health and end suicide.

Image: Getty Images

A successful movie trailer not only makes you feel the anticipation to see a new flick, but it also gives you key glimpses into the story and characters so that you immediately are sold to watch it.

However, some trailers have deceived audiences by selling an image of a story that does not remain true to the movie.

Here are six movie trailers that managed to deceive audiences. Warning: Spoilers for the following movies.

1. Kangaroo Jack

The trailer for Kangaroo Jack pitched the film as a family friendly comedy with the likes of a talking kangaroo and screaming characters. Many kids watched the flick at the cinemas only to sit through a mafia comedy about adult friendships and failed dreams. The coy marketing ploy led the film to the top of the box office over its opening weekend.

2. Snow Dogs

After watching the trailer, this Disney film appears to look like a story following different talking dog characters. However, apart from the main dog Demon, the canines are not even central to the plot. After watching the film, audiences will realise the clip from the trailer that contains talking is dogs is from a dream sequence in the movie.

3. Drive

One woman sued the distributor of this movie because she believed the trailer was so deceiving. While the trailer makes it appear like a typical blockbuster car-chasing action film, it is actually slow-paced and contains little driving. The film focuses on cinematography, layers of meaning and character development rather than the typical Fast and the Furious story-arc that trailer viewers might have been expecting.

4. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Although Sweeney Todd has been a musical for years, the trailer concealed all of its musical themes. The confused audiences who packed into cinemas to see this movie were taken aback as it strayed from the typical action thriller genre as depicted in the trailer.

5. Passengers

Passengers, starring heavyweight Hollywood actors Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, strayed away from the central plot in the trailer advertising. It appears as if the duo were woken up by accident on their space voyage, however, in the movie Pratt’s character wakes up Lawrence on purpose – effectively killing her. Some audiences were turned off by his moral decision.

6. Collateral Beauty

This movie has a trailer that is understandably not true to the movie story because the story has too many twists to be successfully summarised in a short trailer. Will Smith plays Howard Inlet, a grieving man who struggles to move on in life. He begins to write letters to Death, Time and Love and soon these abstract identities show up to help him heal. Later, viewers discover that Howard’s friends have actually hired actors to play the personifications of Death, Time and Love so that they can film him and prove that he insane in order to take control of his business. However, there is still one more twist that audiences weren’t expecting.

Have you ever been disappointed with a movie because of a misleading trailer?
