"Taken way too soon": TV star's brother breaks silence after shocking death

The grieving brother of slain TV star Johnny Wactor has broken his silence over his brother's untimely death.

Johnny Wactor, 37, was killed in Los Angeles in the early hours of Saturday morning when he intercepted a group of men trying to steal the catalytic converter from his vehicle, and was shot dead at the scene.

Now, Wactor's brother Grant has shared more details on the events surrounding his Johnny's death, telling People magazine that he had finished a shift working as a bartender at the time he was shot.

After his shift finished at about 3:25am local time, he walked to his car with a female co-worker when he noticed that his car had been “jacked up or lifted in some way”.

Initially, the actor thought his car was being towed away, but quickly realised the people surrounding his car were not tow-truck drivers.

Grant said his brother physically shielded his female colleague to prevent her from being hurt and had his hands up in the air when he was shot.

“He did not confront them,” he told the publication. “He did not try to stop them. He was just trying to diffuse the situation by stepping back.”

After the shooting the men fled the scene in a different car, and LAPD officer Jeff Lee said the suspects were “still outstanding”.

Grant Wactor said his family were “hoping and praying” that the killers were found and brought to justice.

“We just want (them to be found) as quickly as possible and correctly,” he said, describing his brother as “a good person”.

“He was taken way too early, and no one should be taken like this at all,” he said.

“He touched a lot of people. He believed in his core values to the end, and he lived life to the fullest the way he wanted to. And he was happy doing that.”

Image credits: Instagram / Ouzounova / Shutterstock Editorial

Radio legend dies aged 97

Australia's longest serving DJ Bob Rogers has died aged 97.

The veteran radio presenter, who had a broadcasting career spanning 78 years, passed away at his Mosman home, surrounded by his family on Wednesday morning.

Friend and family spokesperson, Derryn Hinch, paid tribute to the radio legend in a social media post dedicated to "my dear friend, my ‘brother’".

"His show business career spanned nearly 80 years. Bob started in radio at Melbourne’s 3XY when he was 15. He was still doing a radio program on Sydney’s 2CH in his nineties," he wrote.

"The words legend and icon are thrown around too easily these days but Bob Rogers was both.

"As a kid I used to listen to him on my crystal set from across the ditch in New Zealand," he added.

He then went on to describe one of Rogers' career highlights, when he represented 2SM and accompanied the Beatles on their 1964 tour through Europe, Asia and Australia - the only time the band toured the country.

He was nicknamed 'the fifth beatle' as a result.

Rogers worked for multiple radio stations across the country as a presenter, disc jockey and announcer, and was even awarded an OAM in 2010 for his contribution to broadcasting.

Current 2GB broadcaster Clinton Maynard paid tribute to the radio legend, saying it was an honour to host the same show as him.

"An honour to be broadcasting this morning from the same floor where Bob Rogers spent 18 years on 2CH and where he presented his last programs from at age 93. Major TV star's 7-year-old undergoes third open heart surgery

Jimmy Kimmel's seven-year-old son has undergone his third, and hopefully final open heart surgery after being born with congenital heart disease.

In 2017, Jimmy revealed that Billy was only three days old when had to undergo his first open heart surgery, after doctors found “a hole in the wall of the left and right side of his heart” that was preventing enough oxygen from reaching his blood.

Billy was only seven months old when he had to undergo his second open heart surgery, and over the weekend he had to undergo his third major surgery at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

A few days later, the TV host took to Instagram to share an update following his son's successful surgery.

"We went into this experience with a lot of optimism and nearly as much fear and came out with a new valve inside a happy, healthy kid," Kimmel wrote, alongside a picture of his youngest son smiling in a hospital bed.

He then thanked all the surgeons, doctors and other medical staff who "came through for us with immeasurable kindness and expertise."

"Walking around this hospital, meeting parents at their most vulnerable, children in pain and the miracle workers who do everything in their considerable power to save them is a humbling experience," Kimmel continued.
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; "Not one ounce of compassion”: BBC star kicked off plane over daughter's allergy

A BBC weather presenter and her family have been kicked off a plane after asking passengers to be wary of her daughter's peanut allergy.

British weather presenter Georgie Palmer was flying from London to Turkey with her husband Matt and their daughters Annie and Rosie, as the family boarded their flight at Gatwick Airport with SunExpress airlines.

Georgie and her family were kicked off the plane shortly after boarding, after the 49-year-old mother ran into issues around her daughter's severe allergy to peanuts.

According to Palmer, she has requested that the captain make an announcement to all passengers asking them not to eat any peanut products on the flight, but the pilot refused.

Palmer then took matters into her own hands and one by one asked passengers not to consume peanuts on the four-hour flight, before being asked to disembark the aircraft.

The weather presenter took to Instagram to share her side of the story with a lengthy post.

She began, “I thanked the beautiful souls on our plane for helping us. Many of them hugged, cheered and held our hands as we were forced to disembark."

“The SunExpress captain and cabin crew refused to make the standard announcement on behalf of our daughter. We gently asked the passengers at the front of the plane to share our request."

“Row by row, all the passengers turned back to kindly ask the row behind to please not eat nuts on the flight. It was calm, earnest and with an overwhelming sense of solidarity and empathy.”

Georgie added: “There’s no beef with simple asks like these. People get it!"

“We were hoofed off the plane after the angry little captain shouted at us from the cockpit.”

She concluded by saying they were discriminated against for “simply having an allergy”.

Georgie told the Daily Mail, “The captain decided because of my daughter’s allergy he didn’t want to fly with her on board."

“When he found out I had spoken to the other passengers he was screaming at me from the cockpit. He was so angry, the next thing I knew we were told to get off the plane."

“How we were treated was disgusting – nobody working on that plane showed one ounce of compassion.”

A SunExpress spokesman then shared the airline's version of events, claiming that Georgie's husband had become aggressive, and kicked the family off the plane with their best interests at heart.

The statement said, “We take the safety of our passengers very seriously. Shortly after boarding our flight, the passenger raised a concern about one of his family group having a serious peanut allergy."

“They requested an announcement to other passengers. We refrain from making these kinds of announcements. Like many other airlines, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment on our flights, nor can we prevent other passengers from bringing food items containing allergens on board."

“Due to the insistent behaviour of the passenger to others on board, the captain decided it would be safest if the family did not travel."

“When this was explained to the passenger, he behaved aggressively towards our crew members and tried to gain access to the cockpit. To ensure the safety of our crew and our passengers on board, we cannot tolerate aggressive and unruly behaviour on our flights."

“Our website states that passengers must notify us 48 hours in advance of any special care required due to a medical condition. No such notification was received from the passengers in this instance.”

According to The Sun, Mr Sollom denies acting aggressively.

The differing versions of events have divided many on social media as thousands weighed in on the debacle, with plenty of users siding with the pilot.

“The pilot is a national treasure,” one person wrote.

“As they should have been,” a second wrote, referring to the family getting kicked off.

“Would have booted them off as well,” another agreed.

A fourth wrote: “I think this story would be found under Self Entitlement in the dictionary.”

Vale.”

Nine News confirmed the “sad news” of Dr Gordon’s passing from pancreatic cancer on Saturday, as presenter Georgie Gardner said “he will be deeply missed”.

Professionally known as Dr Ric Porter, he had previously hosted Nine’s long-running lifestyle hit Good Medicine, which ran for nine years in the 1990s.

Dr Gordon was a part of the team of doctors who delivered the first IVF birth in NSW in 1983, and during his career, he delivered more than 5000 babies, including in 2003 when he safely delivered a baby live on the Today show.

Reflecting on the moment in 2022, Dr Gordon told Today viewers it was an extraordinary moment in television.

“It went so well, it was a great morning and a good outcome,” he said. “The baby cried when it was meant to cry, mum and dad were happy."

The well-known doctor also drew some controversy over his career, including an offensive analogy where he used the Holocaust to explain weight loss on the same breakfast TV program in 2015.

Despite apologising for saying “there were no overweight people in the concentration camps”, his apology was dismissed by many for being “insufficient” and “unsatisfactory”.

Dr Gordon said at the time, “I’m very sorry it upset those people. It was never my intention.”

He added that he had “done a lot of study” on the Holocaust and his comments were merely “used as a medical example”.

"It’s a nightmare": Star golfer's cause of death revealed

Two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray has died at the age of 30.

Golf officials announced his death on Sunday morning, with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan releasing a statement.

“We were devastated to learn — and are heartbroken to share — that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning,” Monahan said.

“I am at a loss for words. The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same"

Murray's parents later confirmed that their son took his own life, just one day after he withdrew from the second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge - a PGA Tour event - due to illness.

“We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone,” his parents, Eric and Terry Murray said in a statement.

“It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare.”

"We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and — it seems — by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed.

“Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.”

They have also asked for privacy and for people to honour Murray by being kind to one another.

Murray has previously been open about his battle with depression and alcoholism, according to The NY Post.

He talked about turning the corner in his life and being eight months sober, after winning the Sony Open in Honolulu in January.

“It's not easy,” Murray said immediately after winning. "I wanted to give up a lot of times. Give up on myself. Give up on the game of golf. Give up on life, at times.”

Murray tied for 43rd last week in the PGA Championship, which earned him a spot in the US Open next month at Pinehurst No.2 in North Carolina.

The PGA Tour commissioner said he spoke with Murray's parents about halting play, but they insisted the golf tournament to continue.

“We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones. I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so," he said.

Monahan flew to Fort Worth, Texas, on Sunday to be with players, and many of them wore black-and-red pins on their caps - the colours of the Carolina Hurricanes, Grayson's favourite NHL team - to honour the golfer.

Image: Daniel Lea/Csm/ Shutterstock Editorial

Seinfeld star's worrying health update

Seinfeld star Michael Richards has revealed his secret battle with prostate cancer in 2018, and how he only survived after making the decision to undergo surgery.

Richards, who played the ever-eccentric Cosmo Kramer in the 1990s sitcom, received the stage one diagnosis after a routine check-up showed he had elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels.

He opened up about the diagnosis to People magazine, saying, “I thought, ‘Well, this is my time. I’m ready to go’.”

“But then my son came to mind just a few seconds later, and I heard myself saying, ‘I’ve got a nine-year-old, and I’d like to be around for him. Is there any way I can get a little more life going?’”

Richards’ doctor recommended removing the comedian’s entire prostate because the biopsy “didn’t look good”, as Richards explained it "had to be contained quickly”.

“I had to go for the full surgery. If I hadn’t, I probably would have been dead in about eight months,” the 74-year-old said.

After facing the difficult health battle, Richards felt inspired to write his forthcoming memoir, Entrances and Exits, using a collection of diaries he had kept over the years.

“I had over 40 journals I’d kept over the years and wanted to do a full review of my life. I’m turning 75, so maybe wanting to do that is something that comes with being my age. I wanted to connect with feelings and memory,” he told the publication.

“I’m surprised at how much I was able to remember.”

Greg Grudt/UPI/Shutterstock Editorial
