Kerri-Anne Kennerley calls fire brigade to help husband John

<p>The past couple of years haven’t been kind to Kerri-Anne Kennerley’s husband John, who <a href="http://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/2016/03/kerri-anne-kennerley-husband-broken-c2-and-c3-vertebrae/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">became a quadriplegic</span></strong></a> as a result of a serious fall in early 2016, so understandably, the Aussie TV legend wants to make her hubby’s Christmas extra special this year.</p> <p>Speaking to <a href="https://honey.nine.com.au/2017/12/19/11/55/kerri-anne-kennerley-and-husband-john-special-plans-for-christmas" target="_blank"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">9Honey</span></strong></a>, KAK revealed she’s enlisted some surprising help to ensure John can make it to their friend’s Christmas Eve get-together.</p> <p>“My best girlfriend Elizabeth does Christmas Eve for 30 people and we’re all going,” she explained. “We were almost not going because she has four steps which means you need a six-metre ramp for John’s chair.</p> <p>“Then I thought, we have Woollahra fire station literally behind us so yesterday I went to visit them, and they could not have been more fabulous.</p> <p>“I said, ‘I need a fireman to lift John’s wheelchair up four stairs a block away on Christmas Eve at about 7pm, and then help carry him down the stairs at approximately 10.30.’ He said, ‘Absolutely, we do these things for the community. Any time 24/7 you need help with John we’re always here.”</p> <blockquote style="background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 658px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);" class="instagram-media"> <div style="padding: 8px;"> <div style="background: #F8F8F8; line-height: 0; margin-top: 40px; padding: 50.0% 0; text-align: center; width: 100%;"> <div style="background: url(data:image/png; base64,ivborw0kggoaaaansuheugaaacwaaaascamaaaapwqozaaaabgdbtueaalgpc/xhbqaaaafzukdcak7ohokaaaamuexurczmzpf399fx1+bm5mzy9amaaadisurbvdjlvzxbesmgces5/p8/t9furvcrmu73jwlzosgsiizurcjo/ad+eqjjb4hv8bft+idpqocx1wjosbfhh2xssxeiyn3uli/6mnree07uiwjev8ueowds88ly97kqytlijkktuybbruayvh5wohixmpi5we58ek028czwyuqdlkpg1bkb4nnm+veanfhqn1k4+gpt6ugqcvu2h2ovuif/gwufyy8owepdyzsa3avcqpvovvzzz2vtnn2wu8qzvjddeto90gsy9mvlqtgysy231mxry6i2ggqjrty0l8fxcxfcbbhwrsyyaaaaaelftksuqmcc); display: block; height: 44px; margin: 0 auto -44px; position: relative; top: -22px; width: 44px;"></div> </div> <p style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; margin-bottom: 0; margin-top: 8px; overflow: hidden; padding: 8px 0 7px; text-align: center; text-overflow: ellipsis; white-space: nowrap;"><a style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BOT9L0QjF_7/" target="_blank">A post shared by Kak 💁 (@kerriannekennerley)</a> on Dec 21, 2016 at 11:55pm PST</p> </div> </blockquote> <p>How sweet is that? And as for the big day itself, to make things easier for both of them, Kerri-Anne and John will be hosting the festivities at their home. “The kids will jump in the pool and I'll do roast pork, prawns and other seafood,” she said.</p>

Alex McKinnon opens up about the moment he stood up at his wedding

<p>Almost three weeks on from his wedding, ex-NRL player Alex McKinnon, who was left quadriplegic after a tragic injury on the footy field, has spoken for the first time about what it felt like to <a href="http://www.oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/relationships/2017/10/alex-mckinnon-stands-in-first-photo-from-wedding/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">finally stand up at the altar</span></strong></a> with now-wife Teigan.</p> <p>Opening up on The Project last night, the young couple revealed the special moment had been two years in the making. It wasn’t easy, but Alex was determined to fulfil the promise he made to his new wife, having vowed to her when he proposed that he would stand for her when their big day arrived.</p> <p><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FTheProjectTV%2Fvideos%2F10155065066323441%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560" width="560" height="315" style="border: none; overflow: hidden;" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></p> <p>“The whole time I was thinking, ‘I’m going to have to sit down, I’m going to have to sit down, how am I going to do this?’” Alex recalled. “Then at the end of the ceremony, it was 45 minutes, I thought, ‘How did I just do this?’”</p> <p>And Teigan couldn’t have been prouder of her brave hubby. “It made it so intimate, I was able to look into Alex’s eyes and feel like we were the same people when we met. He was so much taller than me, big red hair, big smile, his eyes, it made it a lot more special.”</p> <p>The newlyweds, who recently returned from a trip around the US, say they’re planning on having a family “soon”.</p> <p>Congratulations to this inspirational couple!</p>
