Elite school teacher blackmailed for naked photos by student

A teacher at an elite boys' school has opened up about her experience in the "toxic boys' club" that led to her being threatened by a student.

Jasmin Hyde was a maths teacher at the elite Cranbrook School in Sydney's Bellevue Hill when she was blackmailed by one of her students in June 2020, according to ABC's Four Corners.

A student at the school attempted to blackmail the female teacher, demanding she send him nude photos or he would accuse her of sexual assault.

The incident is just one of a number of claims made on Four Corners about the allegedly toxic culture at Cranbrook School, one of the country’s most prestigious institutions where tuition costs up to $46,000 per year.

The student in question was suspended and chose to leave the school for good, and later wrote an apologetic letter to Ms Hyde.

“I have caused so much hurt and disappointment to you, my teachers and the wider school community, my friends and my family,” he said in the letter.

But Ms Hyde was not happy with the school’s response, and took her complaint to the Australian Human Rights Commission.

“In my experience, Cranbrook did not have a safe, inclusive and supportive culture for me and its female teaching staff,” she told the commission in October 2023.

“That must change. It must change for my sake, and it must change for the sake of your current and future teaching staff, and the many young girls who are about to embark on their studies at Cranbrook.”

According to Ms Hyde, she was taken to a cafe by the headmaster and his deputy after she made the claims against the student, to which the deputy head of school suggested it was no surprise she received attention from the boys because she was good-looking.

“Justifying sexual harassment empowers future abuse,” she told the commission.

“This is the standard that Cranbrook management condones, the tone from the top — that young, attractive women at your school should not only expect but tolerate sexual harassment. I wonder how the parents of your future female students would feel about this.”

Cranbrook reportedly apologised, saying in a statement the deputy never intended to offend and was “sorry if [he] has done so”.

In the hours after the Four Corners program aired, Cranbrook School Council issued a statement saying it was “concerned by the allegations raised” in the program but “remains fully supportive of the headmaster and the school’s leadership”.

“Cranbrook takes all allegations of abuse, and its duty of care to its students, extremely seriously and follows relevant and mandatory reporting processes in relation to these matters,” Cranbrook School Council president Geoff Lovell said.

“We acknowledge survivors and their stories. No school is ever exempt from scrutiny or, where deserved, criticism. We offer sympathy to the grievances aired by former staff.”

Halle Berry's priceless response to troll over naked balcony pic

If you’ve got it, flaunt it. And if you’re Halle Berry, do it while sipping wine and basking in the sunshine, rising above a troll or two along the way.

And that’s the exact approach the Academy Award winning actress has taken with her latest social media share, to the delight - and amusement - of fans all over.

In a picture posted to Halle’s various online accounts, the 56-year-old can be seen standing nude on a balcony with a wine glass in hand, glowing in the light from above.

Some strategic limb placement and shadow work keep the snap well within posting guidelines, though that likely wouldn’t have kept the actress from sharing her peaceful moment, with her caption reading “I do what I wanna do.”

Comments flooded in for the Catwoman star, and while some were far more appropriate than others, the general consensus was that Halle should absolutely continue to do exactly what she wanted, with the heartfelt support of her fans behind her, and many applauding her bold statement.

“Well behaved women never made history,” wrote author and wellness expert Maria Emmerich.

“The blueprint,” declared American rapper Saweetie.

“YES!!!!” gushed singer Kelly Rowland.

“I’m 61. If I looked like her, I would be way worse!” said one fan. “She looks gorgeous.”

“I just wanted to see the sunrise but this is 1000% better!” another chimed.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Halle Berry (@halleberry)

However, despite the celebration from the majority, there were still those who saw fit to spew their cruelty, with some going so far as to blame Halle’s joy in her body for any hardships in her relationships. Halle silenced them soon enough though, confirming with one fan that it had actually been her own boyfriend - singer Van Hunt - who took the picture.

And when someone took issue with Halle daring to bare all in her 50s, the star once again took the high road (to the balcony), drawing attention to the sheer absurdity of the original comment with her unique - and entirely unforgettable - comeback.

“Imagine being in your 50s still posting nudes for attention in menopause when you should be chilling with your grandkids,” wrote Halle’s hater, “ageing with dignity is no longer a thing.”

And Halle, in a move that gave the ageist comment none of the attention it was craving, merely asked of her followers, “did you guys know the heart of a shrimp is located in its head?”

The comment was never going to sit well with the actress, who has been open about her thoughts on ageing in Hollywood - and life in general - in the past, even telling AARP in 2022 that “we’re all going to get older. Our skin is going to shrivel up and we’re going to look different. I see things changing with my face and body, but I’ve never put all my eggs in that basket. I’ve always known that beauty is deeper than the physical body you’re walking around in.”

“I refuse to become someone who just tries to hold on to a youthful face and not embrace what’s most important about being beautiful - how you live your life, how you give back to others, how you connect to people, how you strengthen your mind, body, and soul and nourish yourself, how you give in a meaningful way of yourself. The most beautiful people have something radiating inside.

“Women are told that when we reach a certain number, we’re no longer valuable. I believe the opposite. Society should look at us as jewels as we get older.

“Because the older women get, the more formidable we are.”

Images: Instagram

The naked truth about Naked Wines

Behind every bottle of wine is a talented winemaker. But do you know who they are?

If you buy your wine at a typical bottle shop, you won’t. They’re an invisible part of a big wine company (or supermarket – you’d be surprised how many wine brands are owned by Woolies and Coles) with someone else's name on the label.

In 2012, Naked Wines set out to change that by backing talented independent Aussie and Kiwi winemakers to make their own wine exclusively for their customers.

That way, the winemakers get upfront funding and spend less time selling and more time making their best wine. And Naked’s customers get super quality wines that cost much less than traditional retail.

Why ‘Naked’?

It’s nothing to do with a lack of clothes! The company’s called Naked because everything except the wine is stripped back – you’re not paying for hidden costs that drive the prices up like distribution and advertising. You get exactly what you pay for (amazing quality wine) while having the satisfaction that you’re supporting local independent winemakers!

Who are the Naked winemakers?

They’re some of the best in Australia and New Zealand. Talented folk who’ve worked for famous labels like Yalumba, Penfolds, Wolf Blass and Vasse Felix and now work for themselves. Naked Wines give them the freedom to make their own wines their way and have fun along the way.

Is this a wine club?

Naked Wines is not a wine club – it’s a thriving wine community!

The website is a lively hub for not only buying wine, but posting and reading millions of Naked wine reviews, connecting with each other and ‘chatting’ with the winemakers themselves.

You can buy whatever wines you want there, when you want, and they’ll be delivered to your door with a refund for any you try and don’t like.

Anyone can buy wines at nakedwines.com.au, but their Angel members get the best deal. In return for a small monthly credit to their Naked Wines account to use against their future orders, Angels get the red carpet treatment like up to 40% off the retail price, exclusive access to wines you can’t buy anywhere else, free samples with certain purchases, and delivery discounts.

That’s why there are over 100,000 of them!

What now?

Naked Wines gives wine drinkers a simple way to enjoy fantastic Australian and New Zealand wines at amazing prices and support independent winemakers into the bargain. If that sounds something you’d like to be part of, claim a voucher for $100 off your first case of Naked Wines here.

This is a sponsored article produced in partnership with Naked Wines.

Half-naked man shocks plane passengers on 10-hour flight

Sometimes flying isn’t the best experience to be had – it can be long, tiring and cramped, so making arrangements to be comfortable such as a neck pillow, cosy clothes or a device to pass the time are all expected to be seen on a flight.

However, one Air France passenger went to new heights when it came to getting comfortable when she posted to Twitter a man sitting across her aisle on 10-and-a-half-hour flight in his boxer shorts.

Lizzie Thompson was on the flight from Paris to Los Angeles when she said a fellow passenger sitting across from her came out of the plane bathroom with no pants, shoes or socks on.

“The man in the seat across from me has taken HIS PANTS OFF for the flight and is just in his boxers… This is going to be a long flight,” she wrote on Twitter.

The man in the seat across from me has taken HIS PANTS OFF for the flight and is just in his boxers. Despite offering to move Ms Thompson, there were no attempts to ask the man to place his pants back on.

“He offered to move me (which would mean losing my bulkhead legroom) but just shrugged when I suggested he ask the man to put his pants back on,” she wrote.

Adding fire to the already bizarrely lit flames – the half-naked passenger allegedly shouted at a man who boarded with a ukulele to “COME SIT WITH ME AND MAKE SOME MUSIC”.

The pant-less stranger also stole “4 mini bottles of wine from the cart,” two hours into the flight and perhaps strangest of all – became so cold he put a thick winter jacket on but left his pants off for the whole flight.

Just landed. 2 hours in he stood up and took 4 mini bottles of wine from the cart. Jamie Oliver abused after launch of The Naked Chef: "I got chased and punched a few times"

Jamie Oliver may be one of the world’s most famous chefs but his climb to fame wasn’t without difficulty.

The healthy eating advocate, who now has a net worth of US$235 million, has revealed that he received a lot of hate after his first show aired.

In an interview with The Sun, Oliver said men were abusive toward him after The Naked Chef series aired because he was showing wives and girlfriends that men were able to cook.

Oliver said: “When men stopped thinking of me as the competition — after about two-and-a-half years — men would stop wanting to punch me.”

“I didn’t realise it was political at the time, but 20 years ago women, en masse, were going to work.

“Women and men, husbands, boyfriends were coming home from work, they’d sit down at six o’clock and go ‘Ahh, f***ing tired’, and men across Britain would look at their wives and go ‘What’s for dinner?’ And they weren’t having it. And rightfully so.

“They had both done a 12-hour day, their feet both hurt, they’re both contributing to the rent — so I didn’t know it because I was too young and stupid, and I was just enjoying life way too much — but women around Britain made me succeed.”

Jamie Oliver explained that the backlash was not only verbal but also physical.

“And then that’s why, if you look back in the papers and study it, men hated me for two years, and I got chased and punched a few times, I had loads of abuse. Men f***ing hated me.”

Oliver said when the series aired he looked “about one-year-old – almost like a foetus”, which inspired women to tell their parents to cook more.

Did you watch Jamie Oliver's The Naked Chef series when it aired on local TV? Tell us in the comments below.

One of these women is actually naked

Can you tell which one of these women is completely naked?

A professional body painter has spent three hours painting a model and the result is quite incredible, considering the model is only wearing pasties, a G-string and a woolly hat and scarf.

The model in the middle of the photo is in fact pretty much naked.

Jen the Body Painter further decided to put her handiwork to the test and got the model to go out with her friends to the shopping centre to see if anyone would notice the model’s nudity.

Jen filmed the shopping trip and later posted the footage on her YouTube page.

Writing on Bored Panda, Jen said: “We walked through the mall to see whether people would react. It got pretty interesting.”

While many assumed the model’s skin-tight look was just the fashion of the day, other shoppers were sceptical, especially when it came to her skinny “jeans”.

One shop assistant asked: “Are those real pants?”

Naked neighbour refuses to close curtains or cover up

If you live in an urban area, chances are you’ve seen much more of your neighbours than you’d probably like to. Well, one couple has had enough, and are asking the internet for advice after multiple requests for their naked neighbour to close the blinds or get dressed have been ignored.

User “Sparklyshoes16” took to the online forum Mumsnet to ask fellow members, “Am I being unreasonable to think she should know better and at least close her curtains when getting dressed?”

She explained that her neighbour was in the nude constantly – even during the day – and that other neighbours had also noticed and asked her to stop – but naked Nancy simply refuses.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Mumsnet community mostly sided with the exhibitionist neighbour.

“Have you considered not looking?” suggested user BertrandRussell. Another agreed, telling the nosy couple to “stop peeping at her”.

Others pointed out that the neighbour wasn’t doing anything illegal – under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, it is not an offence to be naked in public in England and Wales. After all, she wasn’t exactly starkers in the street, right?

“If you don’t like it, don’t look,” wrote user Originalfoolgirl. “I doubt the window is so close you can’t look elsewhere. It’s her house, if she wants to be naked in it, that’s her prerogative.”

Tell us in the comments below, what’s your take? Have you ever accidentally copped an eyeful of one of your neighbours?

Vanilla, blueberry and blackberry naked cake

Decadent and rustic, this stunning cake is definitely one to bring out at the next special occasion. While it mightn’t be the quickest recipe to whip up, we can guarantee it’s worth it!

Serves: 12

Ingredients:

For one cake layer (Note: Double the ingredients for two layers, triple for three etc.)

170g butter, room temperature

¾ cup sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

3 eggs

1¼ cup flour

1¾ tsp. baking powder

½ tsp. salt

For the icing (Note: Double the ingredients to ice two layers, triple for three etc.)

125g butter, softened

1½ cups icing sugar mixture

1 tbsp. milk

To decorate

2 punnets blueberries

2 punnets blackberries

Method:

Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a cake pan and line the bottom with baking paper. Use a cake leveller if available.

Combine butter, sugar and vanilla in a large bowl and beat with an electric mixer until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating lightly as you go.

Mix the flour, baking powder and salt in a separate bowl with a spoon, then slowly add half to the wet mixture, folding as you go. Once all the flour has been absorbed, repeat with the remaining mixture.

Once completely combined, pour the batter into the cake pan and bake for around 15-20 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.

Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then remove and level the cake by removing the dome with a large knife. Try to keep your hand level so both ends of the cake are level.

Repeat the above 5 steps until you have made the desired number of layers.

For the icing, beat the butter with an electric mixer and gradually add icing sugar mixture and milk, beating until combined. If the mixture is too runny, add more icing sugar mixture.

To assemble the cake, place the bottom layer on a large serving plate or cardboard circle.

Spread a thick layer of icing over the top (but not on the sides) of the bottom layer. Repeat until you reach the final layer, covering the top in the remaining icing and decorate with the blueberries and blackberries.

Serve immediately.

Have you ordered your copy of the Over60 cookbook, The Way Mum Made It, yet? Is it safe to sleep naked in a hotel?

A Q&A on popular website Quora has revealed a lot about sleeping naked in hotels.

When one nervous guest asked the forum “Is it safe to sleep naked in a hotel room?” the responses ranged from hilarious to useful to genuinely disturbing.

Here are some of the best responses -

Rupert:

“What are you worried about? Pyjamas or underwear won’t protect you against bed bugs, robbers, man-eating tigers or the monster under the bed. So not wearing them is no less safe.”

Kimberly:

“I was in a hotel once where there was a door to an adjoining room (which you had to pay for if you wanted it — didn’t need it). Got up during the night to go to the rest room. I’m making my way (there), when suddenly the adjoining door opens and I see a man looking in!

“I scream, he screams and then he slammed the door shut! I then bolted it. Thinking about it now, it was actually funny because he appeared to be as frightened as I was. Fortunately I wasn’t naked but was in my PJs ... Check the bolt-locks on adjoining rooms in hotels.”

Eric:

“If you’re going to sleep naked anywhere, always keep a robe or easy-to-throw-on clothes right next to the bed. A pair of shorts and a T-shirt would be perfect.

“That way if someone knocks on the door or the fire alarm sounds, you will have something to cover yourself within 15 seconds. Slippers or (thongs) would also be handy if you have to go outside."

Michael:

“Both me and my wife used to clean hotel rooms for a living. Since we had to enter the rooms of our guests no matter if they were there or not, our cards had to be coded to access-all areas.

“Occasionally, we would come in and our guests would be sleeping — completely naked. Two things happened then: We would immediately leave the room because if they wake up, it would be embarrassing to both of us.

“The other thing that would happen is you and your room number would gain immediate fame among the hotel staff. You are the rock star for a day!”

Kunal:

“As a frequent traveller myself I would say no for these reasons:

“1. Unless it’s 5-star, you cannot vouch for the level of sanitising employed by housekeeping with regards to the mattress; although sheets are changed regularly, you still have a small risk of bugs (though it might be nothing that a 38-40 degree hot shower wouldn’t kill).

“2. In the event of an emergency evacuation, you will need precious minutes to dress up (unless you are fine to bare all. But then you’re still screwed if it’s cold outside plus the possibility of violating decency laws).

“3. Depending on your view, the silk shade white curtain might not be enough to deter possible creeps from staring at you. Trust me. I’ve experienced it.

“4. Some housekeeping staff do not wait longer that 500 milliseconds between announcing themselves and opening the door. I don’t know about you, but I hate that.

“5. You might be disoriented and hurt yourself worse in the dark, should you wake up in the middle of the night for a nature call.”

Nude cruises are a thing

In researching a book on nudism a travel writer has gone on a nude cruise, describing the somewhat awkward experience in a detailed account with all flaps of loose skin included.

For his book, Naked at Lunch Adventures of a Reluctant Nudist, Mark Haskell Smith booked a cruise called The Big Nude Boat, which is essential a luxury cruise liner that caters for nudists.

In his account Mr Haskell Smith explains the only real difference between a normal cruise and a naked one is the lack of clothing, saying, “They were everywhere. On the decks, in the shops, playing ping-pong, guzzling cocktails by the pool and grazing the all-you-can-eat buffets. It wasn’t unusual to get on an elevator and find yourself squeezing in with six or seven totally naked people.”

Mr Haskell Smith at work on his cruise

Image credit: Twitter / NY Times

Mr Haskell Smith also notes that while it may sound on paper like quite a debaucherous trip, nude cruises are actually predominantly populated by people who enjoy the liberation of having their clothes off and strive to generate a “non-sexual environment”. And thanks to people courteously sitting on towels at all times the naked cruise was thankfully a skid mark-free zone.

Mr Haskell Smith says, “While I can’t say I’m planning to go on any cruises in the near future, I did enjoy my first seagoing adventure. There was no plague or pirates, no rogue waves or freak Caribbean icebergs, nothing to cause alarm other than a few random erections.”
