We moved in together aged 18 and started our lives as a couple,” he added.

Jess and Matt married in 2001 and moved to London a year later, after Matt was based in England for his athletics training.

Their family grew in 2006 when they welcomed their first child Sienna, before deciding to return to Australia in 2008.

The couple had a second daughter, Winter, soon after, and went on to have a son, Lincoln, who is six.

Shirvo shared how much he loves raising daughters and getting to see their sense of independence grow.

“They’re great young women, strong and powerful, and I love seeing their desire for independence,” Shirvo said.

“Sienna is extremely artistic and Winnie is ambitious about sport – she just competed in the under-17s National Rowing Championships."

“It doesn’t matter what it is, if your kids have a passion for something and love waking up in the morning to do it, you’ll back it to the end of the earth as a parent.”

On Monday morning's episode of Sunrise, Nat Barr praised the article and Shirvo for his heartwarming words about his family.

“Interesting article in the paper over the weekend about our very own Shirvo — who got candid about life, love, and family,” Barr said, referring to the piece.

“I wanted to give you a shout-out — it was really lovely, I loved reading it.”

“My favourite part was when you said, ‘I never had a celebrity crush growing up, but I did marry my first crush’ It was a really gorgeous story,” Barr said of the piece.

Matt Preston unveils all in new memoir

MasterChef icon Matt Preston has spilled it all in his new memoir Big Mouth.

Speaking to news.com.au to promote his new memoir, the former MasterChef judge revealed the story behind the “secret hand gesture” he made on-screen.

“The first four years of MasterChef were shot in Sydney and my family lived in Melbourne,” he explained.

“So I had to find ways when she was watching the show, of letting her know that she was there.

“At that point, I used to wear two wedding rings on my left hand, so during tastings I would twist the ring on my finger … so that she could watch and know that I wasn’t just lost in some strange MasterChef celebrity bubble but I was actually remembering her.”

He also revealed a few behind the scenes secrets about MasterChef, including the tension between him and fellow judge Gary Mehigan in the first season.

“You have to understand that there is a fundamental cobra versus mongoose relationship between food critics and restaurateurs,” he explained,

He added that things might have been “a little frosty” between them because of a review he had written about one of Mehigan's restaurants in the past.

“I’m the guy who came to Gary’s restaurant, The Boathouse, and had a wobbly table and wrote about how wobbly my table was. He wasn’t happy.

“So there was a certain amount of professional suspicion, shall we say,” he laughed.

However, the pair have figured things out and Preston now considers Mehigan as “one of my most trusted friends”.

Preston also answered the one question viewers always ask in every season: “Don’t the dishes go cold before the judges have a chance to taste them?”

“We had a number of strategies to ensure that we could see the food in its best form,” Preston told the outlet.

One of those strategies was getting the contestants to make a second dish after the challenge ended, and tasting that first.

“We’d taste that in a speed tasting before we did the main tasting,” Preston said. “We would go around and look at things like how high the souffle had risen and were the chips crispy.”

“We were wandering around the whole time, you could see us in the back of each shot, poking into pots and tasting,” he said.

“All you’re trying to do is make the playing field for the contestants as even as possible.”

The memoir will be released on November 7 and also explores Preston's adoption, his fractured childhood and a few family tragedies.

Images: Getty

Matt Shirvington reflects on becoming a father

Matt Shirvington has reflected on the moment he knew he was going to become a father, and the "life-changing" decision he had to make about his future.

The Sunrise co-host recalled when his wife Jessica told him she was pregnant 18 years ago with the couple's first child when they were living abroad in London.

The couple then had to decide if they would stay in the UK when their first child was born, or return home to Australia.

Chatting with 7Life, Shirvo said, “We were living in London doing our own thing and we’d always planned to have a family but it was just an amazing surprise.”

“It was a game changer for us because we were living in London and, although we had kind of had family come and go over there, we were away from home.”

Ultimately, Matt and Jess chose to stay in London to welcome their elder daughter, Sienna, and remained there until Jess was expecting their second child.

“Sienna was about two years old and Jess was actually pregnant when we came home and we had our second baby here in Australia,” Shirvo explains.

The proud parents now have three children, Sienna, 17, Winnie, 15 and Lincoln, five.

Acknowledging the age gap with their youngest, Shirvo says it’s a “different dynamic in our family, but a great one”.

Now a seasoned dad celebrating his 17th Father's Day, Shirvo said the arrival of his first child changed his life "completely".

He explained that they went “from being a couple to having someone else in your life that you have to look after”.

“After that it’s kind of like, ‘Well, we’ve done this before we can do it again’... It’s pretty special.”

Reflecting on his years of fatherhood, Shirvo says watching his kids grow up and finding their life passions has been what he loves most.

“I’ve watched my kids grow up and see them have a passion for something and invest themselves and love something so much,” he shares.

“As a parent, you’d do anything to allow them to do it and allow that to blossom."

“That’s the bit that really gets me.”

Furious Matt Shirvington shocks viewers with a passionate rant

Matt Shirvington has shocked Sunrise viewers after launching into a passionate rant about a cause close to his heart.

The Sunrise host, who has only recently taken over from Kochie, spoke directly to the audience about Aussie Olympic sprinter Peter Bol and his recent exoneration from a false positive drug test.

Bol was provisionally suspended in January after news broke he had returned a positive A sample for synthetic EPO during an out-of-competition drug test.

During the eight-month ordeal as Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) retested the samples, Bol continuously maintained his innocence.

This week, SIA announced Bol's case had been closed after a subsequent independent analysis of his B Sample returned a false positive.

Bol announced the good news with a message on social media on Tuesday.

"I have been exonerated. Nat Barr's real opinion on Matt Shirvington

Sunrise presenter Natalie Barr has shared her real thoughts on her new co-host Matt Shirvington.

After almost a month since former co-host David Koch’s departure, all eyes have been on Barr and Shirvington, who have apparently known each other for years prior to hosting Sunrise together.

“We live in the same area, so we’d see each other in the street and say hi because we both vaguely knew who the other was,” Barr told The Sydney Morning Herald.

She revealed that years ago they would walk past each other on the street as they picked their children up from school, and had since been “in and out of each other’s lives and would see each other at events and always got along”.

“He’s the type of guy who just fits in – a really nice, normal guy with a daggy-dad sense of humour,” she told the publication.

Barr then went on to share how she deals with public scrutiny and revealed that she doesn’t feel any extra pressure from being the more experienced presenter.

“I don’t mind a bit of scrutiny. I mean, I’m on TV. Some people will like the way I do things, some won’t,” she said.

“If you can’t cope with that then I guess you shouldn’t be on TV.”

Barr revealed that ever since she took the hosting job she made a pact with herself to not get into the comments, and so she has turned off all notifications on Twitter.

“I turned the notifications off on Twitter years ago. People can DM me on Instagram but as soon as I get hate and abusive stuff, I block and delete,” she said.

“You can’t stop people being nasty, that’s just what society is like,” she added.

Barr said that she understands that as a public figure she can’t just take in the good comments about her.

“You get personal scrutiny, horrible messages and critical articles written about you,” she said.

“I think when you do a public job, it’s part and parcel. You can’t expect everyone to be writing glowing appraisals.”

Despite the challenges, Barr remains optimistic about her career and the future of Sunrise.

“I think we have developed a show with the same heart and soul that we started with 21 years ago and that can never change,” she said.

“There will be tweaks, people will come and go, but it’s bigger than any one of us. And that makes me happy.”

Image: Instagram

Matt Shirvington’s new Sunrise salary revealed

While Matt Shirvington may have landed the biggest break of his breakfast television career, he still has an uphill battle ahead if he wants a salary that reflects his predecessor, David Koch.

As a senior executive told The Daily Mail, Kochie was earning over $1.5 million for his hosting role on the hit show Sunrise, despite only working four days in each week.

Shirvington, on the other hand, reportedly signed a contract with the Seven network promising him an initial salary of $400,000 each year.

And while this is said to be subject to an increase if things are looking favourable at ratings time, it’s a starting point that doesn’t even scrape the halfway mark of Kochie’s earnings.

“Kochie was a big part of Seven’s overall success,” the source told the publication. “And that’s why he was taking home about $1.5 million.

“Shirvo is young, good looking, and charismatic, but he's still relatively untested, which is why he's getting paid half of what Kochie earned.”

That same source noted that they anticipated seeing former-Olympian Shirvington’s salary rise to roughly $750,000 if the feedback to his tenure was positive, with solid ratings to back it up.

“If he can maintain or even boost ratings, the sky's the limit,” they said.

Shirvington - and curious minds - won’t know for sure until November, when Australia’s ratings year draws to a close, which gives the new host almost six months to get on top of winning viewers’ hearts.

It won’t be an easy feat, as audiences adjust to the change after losing departing host Kochie - who happened to be the longest-serving breakfast television host in Australia’s entertainment history, leading the charge for an impressive 21 years.

“While he is a talent, he's not a professionally trained journalist,” the source added. “He may struggle in the fast-paced world of live television.”

And while Shirvington may be eagerly awaiting the end of the year to see how he’s landed with fans, he won’t be the only one, with Sunrise’s home network holding high stakes in the whole matter, too.

As the executive explained, “success at breakfast underpins the success of the entire network, and can't be underestimated.

“If you watch breakfast on one particular network then you also watch the 6pm news bulletin, and Seven will be hoping those viewers stick.”

Images: Twitter

Matt Wright accuses police of overlooking evidence in helicopter crash investigation

Outback Wrangler star Matt Wright has revealed what he believes caused the helicopter crash that killed his friend and co-star Chris Wilson in 2022, accusing police of ignoring crucial evidence.

Wright is facing seven charges regarding his conduct after the fatal crash, including attempting to pervert the course of justice, fabrication of evidence and destruction of evidence.

Chris “Willow” Wilson was killed on February 28, 2022, while collecting crocodile eggs in a remote area of West Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

The 34-year-old had been suspended in a sling from a helicopter when the aircraft crashed, resulting in his death.

Sebastian Robinson, the pilot of the Robinson R44 helicopter suffered severe spinal injuries from the crash.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Telegraph, Wright revealed the ongoing police investigation is “focusing on picking apart my life and business” rather than the events leading to the fatal crash.

“I do seriously wonder why the NT Police are not focusing on whether the helicopter was refuelled and the fact the toxicology report reveals the detection of cocaine derivatives in the pilot’s blood sample,” he said.

No one has been charged for Wilson’s death, and Wright has “strenuously” denied any wrongdoing.

Wright previously claimed that Mr Robinson’s blood sample tested positive for cocaine and that has been supported by a letter sent by his lawyer David Newey to Senior Crown prosecutor Steven Ledek.

The letter was used as evidence during a court hearing in relation to Wright’s charges in Darwin in April 2023, highlighting information contained in the prosecution’s brief of evidence.

Wright told the publication he recently learned Mr Robsinson, the pilot who was externally contracted for the flight, “was at a party into the early hours of the day before the crash, where people were using cocaine”.

A man who wished to remain anonymous told The Sunday Telegraph that he was introduced to Mr Robinson at a party in Virginia, 30km southeast of Darwin, two nights before the crash.

The outlet reported he came forward after hearing about the toxicology report being referred to in the court case.

Wright described the new revelations as “extremely concerning”, especially given the references to the toxicology report in court, and said if he were aware of what it suggests occurred before the flight “it never would have taken off”.

He also said the preliminary Australian Transport Safety Bureau report suggested the helicopter was not refuelled en route to the egg collection. He believes that is likely what caused the crash.

The helicopter was expected to leave Darwin and refuel at Mr Borradaile on the way to a preparation area near King River in Arnhem Land, where it would land, attach the sling and connect a person before beginning the egg collection.

Wright told The Sunday Telegraph his Darwin fuel stations use “blue fuel” but the station at Mt Borradaile near the crash site used “green”. The colour indicates lead levels. It was reported that the fuel at Mt Borradaile was provided by a third party company involved in egg collections.

The ATSB report said investigators drained “about 250ml of blue fuel from the main tank’s bladder” following the crash.

“This makes me question whether the helicopter was refuelled at Mount Borradaile and whether it was fuel exhaustion that caused the crash,” Wright told the outlet.

A pilot flying another helicopter joining the fatal mission told the Australian there was “no possible way” fuel exhaustion caused the crash because he filled the crashed R44’s tank himself at a fuel-drum site near Mt Borradaile shortly before the crash.

Tim Luck said he flew from Noonamah to the drum site with another pilot and saw Mr Wilson filling up the tank. He also noted he jumped out and took over pumping.

“I’m 100 per cent sure that machine was filled to the top,” he said.

However, Mr Wright said Mr Luck was not “authorised or trained in refuelling helicopters” as that responsibility, he said, was up to the pilot in command.

The Sunday Telegraph obtained a photo which appears to show Wilson sitting in the right-side pilot’s seat with the helicopter’s controls in his hands. Wright said the picture shows Wilson flying the aircraft in the pilot’s seat and Robinson sitting on the left, with both of his feet off the pedals.

“This was a commercial flight, the pilot was not an instructor and Chris Wilson did not have a commercial helicopter licence,” he said.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, the image is time stamped at 7:43am, 40 minutes after the aircraft left Darwin, and appears to show the fuel gauge indicating the tank was about three quarters full. It was an estimated 90 minute flight from Darwin to fuel the drums.

He was not blaming Wilson, describing him as a “true legend” in tributes on social media, for being behind the controls, but could not understand why the “pilot went against protocol”.

NT Police said in a statement they were “continuing to investigate all matters relating to this incident”.

The ATSB’s final report into the cause of the crash is set for release by September 2023.

We are all having Matt’s noodle recipe for dinner!” and another saying, “I am seriously loving you being on TikTok!”

Not everyone was so complimentary, however. Several comments referenced his former role as judge on the ever-popular cooking show, with one writing, “The bloke’s really fallen from grace”, while another said, “The new judges are better than you and co ever were”.

Others wrote, “From a MasterChef judge to two-minute noodles chef, big drop”, and “That’s not good food”, while others rushed to defend him. “He could certainly find ways of building this TikTok, but wouldn’t say he’s fallen from grace just because he’s not viral. He’s a nice guy with good food,” one supporter said.

Several asked him to write down the recipe as they couldn’t follow the fast-paced video, with one person commenting, “I respect this man for bringing his cooking to TikTok, looks amazing and I’m going to make it.” Several people commented on his appearance, with one person writing, “I don’t know what he cooked, I was too busy looking at his handsome face. What a man!” while another wrote, “Your hair, sir. It is magnificent. Truly!”

Since joining the site in October, Preston has accrued nearly 50,000 followers and almost 420,000 likes.

Preston made his TikTok debut shortly after it was announced that several former Masterchef stars will be returning in 2022 for a ‘Foodies vs Favourites’ season, including season one superstar Julie Goodwin.

Image: Tiktok

Matt Damon’s unprompted confession sparks backlash from fans

Matt Damon has received criticism following his recent revelation that he didn’t see an issue with using a homophobic slur up until “months ago”.

The 50-year-old star told The Sunday Times he used “the f-slur” while “at the table” with his family, prompting one of his daughters to tell him off.

“The word that my daughter calls the ‘f-slur for a homosexual’ was commonly used when I was kid, with a different application,” he told the publication.

“I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter. She left the table. I said, ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie Stuck on You!’,” he added, referencing his role as a conjoined twin with Greg Kinnear in the 2003 film.

“She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous. Now your lyrics are getting parsed, to pull them out of context and get the best headline possible,” he said.

“Everyone needs clicks. Bert and Patti Newton's son Matt might finally return home

Bert and Patti Newton's screenwriter son Matthew Newton has been living in New York City for the last few years.

However, as his alleged violent past was brought to light in the age of the #MeToo movement, it's been a struggle for the screenwriter to find work.

His young American wife Catherine wants to stay in NYC, but Matthew wants to return to Australia.

According to insiders, they told Woman's Day that the pair are at a "stalemate" as to what to do.

"For Cat, Manhattan is in her DNA and she'll never leave, no matter how bad it gets," says an insider.

Her career is also on the rise, a stark contrast to her partner.

"Cat went back to Columbia [University] last year and studied journalism," says a source.

"She's since worked for a local newspaper and recently was a co-producer on a documentary about a disabled fencing star. She has a lot of potential, and everyone knows her name because of her prominent family.

"If she moved to Australia she'd be back at square one in a country that isn't particularly fond of her husband for his past behaviour. She's not interested in moving there – and nor was Matthew, until recently."

Matthew is allegedly pushing for a move home, but it might not be near his parents.

"Their contact is reasonably limited to usually just quick phone calls keeping them in the loop of major life movements. But if he were to return, despite his mother's pleas for him to come to Melbourne and stay with them, he will most likely end up in Sydney.

"He used to live in Balmain and he longs for a quiet life by the harbour, away from the Manhattan craziness."

Irish locals "protecting Matt Damon like a glorious gem"

Matt Damon has been quarantining in a tiny Irish village with his wife and children, and it seems everyone including the locals are loving it.

The Hollywood heavyweight has become one of the world’s “nicest” celebrities and while living in Ireland to wait out the coronavirus, the star says it has been a “fairy-tale”.

The US-based actor has been renting out a home in Dalkey, Ireland, on the outskirts of Dublin, since early March when he arrived with his family to finish shooting The Last Duel with Ridley Scott.

However, the star, his wife and his three younger daughters chose to stay put rather than rush home on a private jet when the world plunged into a pandemic.

While his presence in the small town was a tightly-kept secret, he was pictured taking a swim with his towel in a supermarket bag.

The sight was quickly reported to a local radio station.

“I honestly feel like I’m about to throw up … this doesn’t seem real,” said Nathan, of the Fully Charged with Graham and Nathan show.

“I don’t know if you are aware but the Dalkey people are protecting you like a glorious gem,” he said.

Damon laughed at the news and said he had “no idea” but it made him “realise how great this place was.”

“It’s incredible, this is one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever been. Obviously what’s going on in the world is horrible but for my family it timed out.”

The star explained that he moved there for what the family thought would be just eight weeks to shoot the movie.

He and his wife also brought teachers for their three younger children as they would be out of school.

“We’ve got what nobody else has which is actual live human beings teaching our kids.
