Thank you for giving me the welcome that I could only wish for.

“Over the years, Australia has been the place where I’ve played my best tennis, without a doubt.

“If I have to pick one country where I’ve had the most success, which treated me in the best way in terms of tennis, it’s here, definitely.

“Even the circumstances last year, it wasn’t easy for anybody. But I’m just happy to be here focusing on tennis, and enjoying my time with you guys.”

The result sets up a round of 16 clash with Frenchman Quentin Halys, who defeated Australian Jordan Thompson in straight sets on Monday. Djokovic lost only five points on serve during the opening set, but did have to save a break point in the fifth game.

Image: Getty

Paramedic bashed during charity ride holds no grudge against teen attackers

Off-duty paramedic Daniel Mansbridge was seven kilometres into a 1000-kilometre charity ride for children’s cancer when he was pushed off his bicycle and beaten up by a group of teenagers on the south coast of New South Wales.

The ambulance officer, who has 16 years’ experience was riding on the Windang Bridge, south of Wollongong when a teenager pushed him off his bike just after 11:00 am on Friday.

According to Mr Mansbridge, he approached the teenager to inform him how dangerous his actions were and followed him down some stairs under the bridge.

“His other two bigger mates saw me as a threat or something and started to punch me out, and when they finished I said to them I just wanted to have a word.”

He is now dealing with bruising on his face and a fracture under his eyes that requires surgery.

“I’m not going to hit kids,” said Mr Mansbridge, who went on to say that he finds it hard to understand what’s happening.

“Bloody hell this isn’t good – they were just kids. I was shocked, I didn’t know what to do. I was just setting out for a big long ride and the next thing I know I was in the hospital.”

He believes his attackers were also taken aback by the incident.

“Afterwards, they actually went and got my bike and brought my bike down and made sure I was OK.

“They said they were sorry and felt bad and helped me gather my things.

“It was very confusing,” he said.

“I think once I said to them, I just want to have a chat about how silly it was, they might have realised they’d gone too far.

“I think, to be honest, it started off with a kid showing off to his mates and this is the consequence.”

Mr Mansbridge said he chose not to retaliate and doesn’t want the kids to be charged.

“We all make mistakes … we can learn a lesson and just be a bit more tolerant of people and aware of the consequences of your actions.”

Chief Inspector Terry Morrow from the NSW Ambulance Service said the attack was extremely disturbing.

“We are really proud of Daniel and other people in our service, out there riding for the community to raise money for kids with cancer and these sort of things,” he said.

“All of a sudden to have one of our officers randomly hit on his bike trying to do the right thing, to receive the injuries that he has sustained, we are appalled by the whole situation.”

Mr Mansbridge said that once he recovers from the attack, he plans on completing the charity ride.

“I wanted to hit him”: Nick Kyrgios crashes out in fiery grudge match against Rafael Nadal

Nick Kyrgios has made headlines once again after his second round loss to Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon, saying the Spanish champion wasted time, didn’t play according to the rules and also placed blame on the umpire for not calling the star out.

The pair are known to famously hold a grudge against one another, and the match was thrilling to say the least. Temper tantrums and death stares featured heavily during the game but despite Kyrgios’ best efforts, Nadal ended up taking the win.

The Spaniard emerged victorious in four sets 6-3 3-6 7-6 7-6, as he proved to be the better player in two nail biting tiebreakers to seal the final result.

It was made perfectly clear that the two do not see eye to eye, and Kyrgios was left enraged after Nadal took the first set 6-3.

During the changeover, Kyrgios lodged a complaint to umpire Damien Dumusois saying he wasn’t given the opportunity to challenge a call because the official’s eyes were on the other side of the court even though the only player who would want to go upstairs would be Kyrgios.

Then Nadal, who is known to take up every one of his allotted 25 seconds between points, frustrated the Aussie for taking his time to serve.

“I’m ready to serve, how long are we going to wait? I’m ready to serve the ball,” Kyrgios told the umpire.

⚡️ Electrifying all afternoon...

Sit back, relax and enjoy the very best of @RafaelNadal vs @NickKyrgios#Wimbledon pic.twitter.com/02lOwdv3Xq
— Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) 4 July 2019

His anger went straight through to the seventh game, as he was still fuming at the next change of ends when we went down 4-1.

“When he’s serving, he’s controlling the tempo,” said Kyrgios. “Why do I have to wait for my serve? Why am I waiting? Why?

“It’s too long between serves, it’s bulls***. It’s ridiculous,” he said.

Things just seemed to get progressively worse as the match went on, with the 24-year-old losing his cool after Nadal took a bathroom break.

“What is this stuff bro? Play the game, play the game. It’s stupid,” he said. “You guys (umpires) are the worst of the lot, you’re so biased. Just kiss up to his bum, it’s a joke.

“He takes 40 seconds between every serve, is that within reason? No. So don’t tell me to play within reason. He doesn’t play within reason.

“It’s not fair. This is part of sport is it? What’s happening now is part of the sport?

“I’m serving next and he happens to take a toilet break now. Why?

“What’s going on bro? What’s going on? It’s bulls***.”

The young player retaliated at his opponent by taking aim at Nadal, drilling a ground stroke straight at the 33-year-old, hitting him on his body. Nadal’s response was an icy death stare as he waited for an apology that never came.

Kyrgios later told the press that he was aiming to hit Nadal in the chest and that he refuses to apologise as he did nothing wrong.

Nadal then addressed the situation saying the clip doesn’t adhere to the customs of respect and sportsmanship that tennis is known for.

“Honestly, it is not about what I feel or what I don’t feel. Honestly, it is about we are in a game and the history of this sport is about respect and is about playing fair during the whole time,” said Nadal.

“I don’t say Nick does this stuff to bother the opponent, but it is true that sometimes he’s dangerous. When he hits the ball like this, is dangerous.

“It’s not dangerous for me, it is dangerous for a line referee, dangerous for the crowd. When you hit the ball like this, you don’t know where the ball goes.

“I know he’s a big, talented player, but I am a professional player too. I know when you hit this kind of ball, the ball can go anywhere. This time the ball went in, almost hit me, no problem. I am professional, so I know how to avoid this.

“But another one, the ball goes straight to the back. So it could have been a dangerous moment for the line umpire. That ball hits an eye or something like this, is a problem. That’s it.

“It is not about I am angry about him at all. It’s about I want to play a match of tennis. Sometimes it’s difficult.”

Prince Henrik’s 46-year grudge against his wife explained

Denmark’s Prince Henrik passed away peacefully in his sleep earlier this week, but the months prior to his passing were marred by illness and odd behaviour.

Before he was diagnosed with dementia, the Prince Consort sparked controversy when he went public with a long-held grudge against his wife, Queen Margrethe.

In a shock announcement last August, the Danish Royal House’s director of communications, Lene Balleby, told the press that the French-born prince did not want to be buried alongside his wife.

“It is no secret that the prince for many years has been unhappy with his role and the title he has been awarded in the Danish monarchy,” Lene Balleby, the Royal Danish House’s director of communications, told BT. “This discontent has grown more and more in recent years.

“For the prince, the decision not to be buried beside the queen is the natural consequence of not having been treated equally to his spouse – by not having the title and role he has desired.”

Essentially, he argued that since they weren’t equals in life, they should not be so in death.

The Prince had long been unsatisfied with being relegated to the title of “Prince Consort”, sparking rumours of a rift in his marriage to Margrethe, who never allowed Henrik to become king.

“My wife does not give me the respect a normal wife must give her spouse,” he told the Danish media. “It is her that is making a fool of me.

“My wife has decided that she wants to be Queen, and I’m very happy about that. But as a human being she needs to know that if a man and wife are married, they are equal.”

Henrik’s dementia diagnosis was revealed shortly after these comments, although they certainly weren’t the first he’d made about his dissatisfaction with his title, earning him the nickname of “the world’s grumpiest royal”.
