"Overwhelming joy": Richard Wilkins shares first photo of new granddaughter

<p>Richard Wilkins has become a grandfather for the third time! </p> <p>The entertainment reporter took to Instagram to share the joyous news on Sunday, with a sweet photo of him holding his granddaughter. </p> <p>"What an overwhelming joy to meet the youngest member of our little family Amira Jean. What a perfect little princess you are, absolutely divine! Bruce Willis' heartwarming reaction to granddaughter amid dementia battle

<p>Bruce Willis' daughter Rumer has shared what the actor is like as a grandfather, amid his battle with frontotemporal dementia.</p> <p>Rumer candidly revealed that the now-retired actor is “incredibly loving and kind” and despite his FTD, his face “lights up” whenever he sees his granddaughter Louetta. </p> <p>“His face lights up when he sees Louetta,” Rumer told <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/02/01/entertainment/bruce-willis-face-lights-up-with-granddaughter-amid-dementia-battle/?utm_medium=browser_notifications&amp;utm_source=pushly&amp;utm_content=Entertainment/Living%20Audience&amp;utm_campaign=4164834" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>The New York Post</em></a>.</p> <p>“And I’m just so grateful to have that kind of spark of mischief and fun and and play no matter what age I am.”</p> <p>Louetta is Rumer’s 9-month-old baby girl with partner, Derek Richard Thomas. </p> <p>Rumer also shared that her father is most like David Addison Jr, a character he played on the hit 80s show <em>Moonlighting</em>.</p> <p>“So charming, so funny, so silly … kind of mischievous glint in his eye, kind and sweet,” she said. </p> <p>“And so I feel like that’s really the epitome of who my dad is.</p> <p>“And that is so true to this day.”</p> <p>Despite his dementia diagnosis, Rumer said that her father has not lost any of his trademark silliness and sense of humour.</p> <p>“He’s so incredibly loving and kind,” she said. </p> <p>“My dad is absolutely the reason I (have) my taste in music (and) some of my humour.</p> <p>“Both of my parents are so silly.”</p> <p>In 2022 Bruce's family announced that the <em>Die Hard</em> star was going to retire, as he was diagnosed with <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/bruce-willis-forced-to-retire-after-medical-diagnosis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aphasia</a>, a disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate. </p> <p>A year later it was revealed that it had progressed to <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/cruel-disease-bruce-willis-given-heartbreaking-new-diagnosis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">frontotemporal dementia</a>.</p> <p>His family have since kept fans updated on the star's health. </p> <p><em>Images: Instagram</em></p> <p> </p>

Grandmother fatally stabbed in front of granddaughter

<p>On Saturday evening, the Town Square Redbank Plains underground carpark became the scene of a horrifying crime as Vyleen White, a 70-year-old grandmother, lost her life in a brutal stabbing, leaving the community in shock and mourning.</p> <p>The heart-wrenching incident occurred as White was returning to her car with her groceries and her six-year-old granddaughter. The young girl, traumatised by the violence she witnessed, ran up the escalator screaming and crying for help, as the assailants callously stole White's vehicle.</p> <p>Local resident and off-duty doctor Ademola Afolabi responded to the cries for help but tragically arrived too late. He recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “For a little girl to witness that is painful, she won’t forget that.”</p> <p>The shocking nature of this crime has prompted a major manhunt for the alleged perpetrators. Police have released CCTV footage showing four persons of interest, believed to be a mix of adult and juvenile males of African appearance, arriving at a house in the stolen vehicle before abandoning it at nearby Springfield Lakes.</p> <p>The investigation is still in its early stages, but it is suspected that the stabbing was a result of a robbery that escalated into a violent crime. White's daughter, Danice White, expressed the family's grief and frustration. “We want justice,” she said. “There should be a police beat at every shopping centre and a police presence, or even a guard dog on site in the police beat. If we can’t feel safe walking around, there’s a problem.”</p> <p>The tragic loss of Vyleen White, remembered as a thoughtful woman with a strong Christian faith, has left her family and friends devastated. Her daughter described her mother's compassion, saying, “She was always praying for people, that’s why I am still around.”</p> <p>As the community mourns the loss of a beloved grandmother, there is an urgent call for action. Jimmy Barnes' granddaughter's touching tribute at Red Hot Summer

<p>With Jimmy Barnes currently recovering from <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/the-dose-of-magic-helping-jimmy-barnes-recover-after-surgery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">open heart surgery</a>, there was no way he could perform at the Red Hot Summer Tour, but his family and friends have come together to put on a show in honour of the star. </p> <p>The<em> Barnes All-Stars</em>, formed by none other than Jimmy's own daughter Mahalia, includes stars like Jon Stevens, Chris Cheney, and his legendary <em>Cold Chisel</em> bandmate, Ian Moss.</p> <p>The band have been headlining for the first three shows of the tour, and performed classic songs by <em>Cold Chisel</em> and Jimmy Barnes, which were compiled by the rock star himself.</p> <p>While the band put on a stellar show, Jimmy's granddaughter, Ruby Rogers' performance of the the Chisel classic <em>Flame Trees, </em>stole the hearts of fans. </p> <p>"In case you didn’t get to see this fantastic performance, this is granddaughter Ruby filling in for me on the weekend," Jimmy tweeted, gushing over her performance. </p> <p>"I love her so much.  Thanks everyone. Nelson Mandela's granddaughter dies at just 43

<p>Zoleka Mandela, the granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, has died of cancer at the age of 43. She passed away on the evening of Monday, September 25th, surrounded by friends and family.</p> <p>Mandela had been battling cancer for several years. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32, but went into remission. However, the cancer returned last year and had metastasised to her liver and lungs.</p> <p>Despite her illness, Mandela remained active in her community and continued to advocate for cancer prevention and awareness. She was also a vocal advocate for road safety after her 13-year-old daughter, Zenani, was killed in a car crash in 2010.</p> <p>In an interview with Kaya FM in April, Mandela said: "I'm learning to be okay with my eventuality."</p> <p>“The Nelson Mandela Foundation extends its heartfelt condolences to the Mandela family on the passing of Zoleka Mandela, tragically last night,” the Nelson Mandela Foundation said in a statement. “We mourn the loss of a beloved grandchild of Mum Winnie and Madiba and a friend of the Foundation.”</p> <p>Zoleka's frank disclosures about her illness and her strength in the face of adversity earned her a devoted following on social media.</p> <p>"Utterly tragic loss of a human being in her grandfather's footsteps. "Bert would be beaming": Patti Newton's granddaughter makes TV debut

"You can’t ever get them back": Granddaughter’s plea for stolen ashes

<p>Grieving teenager Jakoda Williams-Boyce has pleaded with thieves for the return of her grandmother’s ashes.</p> <p>The theft occurred when the 19-year-old from Adelaide left her nana’s remains in the boot of her grey Mitsubishi Lancer after parking it on Amadeus Crescent in Christie Downs. The car was stolen at some point between Thursday evening and Friday morning with the urn still inside.</p> <p>Jakoda had been living with her grandmother, Sharon, when she passed away at the age of 64. The family had been in possession of Sharon’s remains ever since, until they came under Jakoda’s care four weeks ago.</p> <p>In images shared with 9News, Jakoda can be seen cradling the precious urn, and smiling in an old photograph with her nana alongside the caption “10 months today. I love you my angel.”</p> <p>“I will say, it is my own fault for putting that personal item there, but I didn’t think twice. I shouldn’t have to worry about people on the street,” the teenager admitted, speaking to 9News.</p> <p>It remains unclear how thieves got their hands on the car, as the keys and the car’s battery remain with Jakoda, though glass was reportedly scattered across the scene.</p> <p>Police have so far been unable to locate the vehicle, but their search continues, with Jakoda issuing an emotional plea to the thieves for the safe return of her nana, confessing that it feels like losing her beloved grandmother for a second time.</p> <p>“Me, personally, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing that I’ve stolen the car with someone’s cremations in the backseat,” she said, “you can’t ever get them back.”</p> <p>Jakoda’s interests lie solely in getting the ashes back, with the distraught teenager telling reporters, “I would ask the question of ‘why’, but I wouldn’t go any further.</p> <p>“Hopefully, when I do get them back, I want to take them to the funeral director and put them into, like, the ground. Nelson Mandela's granddaughter accuses Sussexes of "stealing" famous quotes

<p>Nelson Mandela's granddaughter has torn into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, accusing them of “stealing" the statesman's words and using his name to “make millions”.</p> <p>Ndileka Mandela, 57, slammed the Sussexes over the Netflix documentary Live To Lead, where the couple use footage of Mandela leaving prison in 1990.</p> <p>Harry says in the trailer for their latest film, part of their $100million (£83million) deal with the streaming giant: “This was inspired by Nelson Mandela”.</p> <p>Ndileka said she was angry that the couple appear to compare their own battles in the Royal Family with her grandfather's long walk to freedom, calling it “upsetting and tedious”.</p> <p>She said: “That's chalk and cheese, there is no comparison. I know the Nelson Mandela Foundation has supported the initiative but people have stolen grandfather's quotes for years and have used his legacy because they know his name sells – Harry and Meghan are no different from them”.</p> <p>She added in an interview with The Australian: “I admire Harry for having the confidence to break away from an institution as iconic as the Royal Family. Prince Charles' first meeting with granddaughter Lilibet was "very emotional"

<p>During the celebrations of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Prince Charles was often spotted in grandpa mode with Prince William and Kate's three children. </p> <p>According to royal aides, the Duke of Wales also spent quality time with his other grandkids, Archie and Lilibet, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited the UK for the milestone celebrations. </p> <p>One of Prince Charles' closest royal aides said the 73-year-old's first meeting with his one-year-old granddaughter was "very emotional".</p> <p>"It was a fantastic visit and of course the Prince was delighted to see his grandson and meet his granddaughter for the first time," the source told UK reporters.</p> <p>"It was fantastic to see them. It was wonderful to have them back in Britain, the Prince [Charles] and the Duchess [of Cornwall] were absolutely thrilled to see them," they added of seeing the Sussexes.</p> <p>"The Prince of course hasn't seen his grandson Archie for a bit of time and so it was very, very, very special to have some time with him. He hadn't met Lilibet, his granddaughter, and so to meet her for the first time was I think very emotional, a very wonderful thing."</p> <p>Lilibet, who was born in Los Angeles on June 4th 2021, also met the Queen, her namesake, during the Sussexes first trip to the UK in some time. </p> <p>It is believed the Lilibet was introduce to Her Majesty on June 2nd following the Trooping the Colour event to kick off the four-day celebrations. </p> <p>Lili also celebrated her first birthday during her first visit to the UK, with photos from a party at Frogmore Cottage being released by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their return to the US after the short trip.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images / Instagram </em></p>

Terminally ill man graduates college alongside his granddaughter

<p>A grandfather-granddaughter duo from Texas have shared a heart-warming milestone together. </p> <p>Melanie Salazar, 23, and her grandfather Rene Neira, 88, have both graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) alongside each other. </p> <p>Rene first began his higher education in the 1950s, but when he fell in love and started a family, he was unable to finish his studies in the traditional four-year span. </p> <p>Throughout the years, Rene took part in online classes, but decided to re-enroll in college in 2016: the same year his granddaughter began her freshman year at the same school. </p> <p><span>"It just so happened that he wanted to go back to school again at the same time that I was starting." Salazar said.</span></p> <p><span>"When we walked past the curtains onto the stage, I was overcome with emotion and started to tear up because I didn't know that we would actually get to share that moment together." </span></p> <p><span>Salazar said, "I told him afterwards, 'You did it, grandpa! College is over!'"</span></p> <p><span>Melanie received her Bachelor of Arts in Communications, while Rene got a degree of recognition in economics. </span></p> <p><span>"It's never too late to go back to school." Elvis Presley’s granddaughter announces bold new "calling"

<p>Eight months after the death of her brother Ben Keough, Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley has announced that she just completed her training to become a "death doula".</p> <p>The actress took to Instagram to thank the community of people who taught her “conscious dying and death work.”</p> <p>"We are taught that it’s a morbid subject to talk about. Or were so afraid of it that we’re unable to talk about it... then, of course, it happens to us, and we are very ill-prepared," she wrote.</p> <p>"I think it's so important to be educated on conscious dying and death the way we educate ourselves on birth and conscious birthing. We prepare ourselves so rigorously for the entrance and have no preparation for our exit. Grandma gives birth to own granddaughter

<p>Julie Loving just gave 29-year-old daughter the gift of life for a second time. The 51-year-old delivered her granddaughter as the gestational carrier on November 2.</p> <p>New mum Breanna Lockwood took to Instagram to share the exciting news along with her daughter’s name - Briar Juliette Lockwood - an ode to her own mother.</p> <p>“My mom was an absolute rockstar through a difficult delivery,” Lockwood wrote in the post. “The sacrifices she took to bring this little slice of heaven into our world takes my breath away. Holding my daughter in my arms my heart is bursting. Karl Stefanovic's mother finally meets her granddaughter Harper

<p>He’s previously spoken about his heartache that his mother, Jenny, has been unable to meet his baby daughter, Harper, due to the coronavirus pandemic.</p> <p>But on Thursday, Karl Stefanovic was finally able to introduce his little bundle of joy to his mother Jenny, 70.</p> <p>Taking to Instagram to share the heartwarming snap, Karl wrote: “My mum lives in Cairns. Covid stopped her from seeing our baby Harper.”</p> <p>“She was scared to come down initially. She didn't want to get it. She didn't want to fly. "Lucky escape" for Winston Churchill's great-granddaughter on Epstein's notorious island

<p>One of Princess Diana's younger bridesmaids detailed her "very lucky" escape after she was a guest on Jeffrey Epstein's island.</p> <p>Clementine Hambro took two flights on Epstein's jet, including one dubbed the Lolita Express.</p> <p>On both occasions, she had been at Epstein's luxury homes where he spent many years abusing young girls.</p> <p>She also was at Epstein's Island Little St James in the US Virgin Islands, which was dubbed by locals as Paedo Island.</p> <p>Miss Hambro, a great-granddaughter of Sir Winston Churchill, said she has been "completely horrified" by the revelations about the financier’s conduct and her "heart breaks for all the survivors".</p> <p>The now-married mother of four said she did not suffer or witness any abuse, but added that she hopes the victims "get the justice they so deserve".</p> <p>She issued a statement after flight logs, which were released as part of court documents, revealed that she flew on the jets to Epstein's visits to his ranch in New Mexico as well as the island.</p> <p>She made the trips back in 1999, where she was a 23-year-old employee at Christie's auction house in New York.</p> <p>In a statement last night, Miss Hambro said: "The first flight was a work trip with female colleagues to look at Epstein’s new home in Santa Fe to discuss what art he was going to buy.</p> <p>"The second trip, to Little St James, was a personal invitation, which I thought would be fun to accept, but I didn’t know anyone there, didn’t really enjoy myself, and never went back. My heart breaks for all the survivors, now I know what happened on that island.</p> <p>"In the course of those two trips, I was not abused, nor did I see anyone abused, or anything untoward happen, with minors or otherwise. I have been completely horrified about the revelations of his conduct since then. I was clearly very lucky, my heart goes out to those who were abused by him, and I trust they get the justice they so deserve."</p> <p>She also apologised for being "young and naive".</p> <p>"I was young and naive, and could not conceive of what was to unfold."</p> <p>She only travelled on the jets when leaving his homes, according to the logs. It is not known how she arrived at the ranch and the island.</p>

“Sitting there waiting to die”: Devastated granddaughter breaks down as she blasts Sydney nursing home

<p><span>The Sydney aged care home responsible for almost a fifth of Australia’s coronavirus deaths has been lashed for its “horrific” handling of a virus outbreak as grieving families call for answers.</span></p> <p><span>The outbreak which occurred at Newmarch House in western Sydney was declared over by NSW Health on June 15 but before that, families were forced to go through two months of trauma.</span></p> <p><span>The coronavirus crisis hit the aged care home and killed 19 people with 37 residents and 34 staff testing positive for the virus.</span></p> <p><span>Speaking to </span><em>Four Corners</em><span>, grieving families of the 19 Newmarch residents killed by the virus said their loved ones were left in heartbreaking and lonely situations in an apparent attempt to keep the outbreak contained.</span></p> <p><span>Nicole Fahey, the granddaughter of 76-year-old Ann Fahey, said she wouldn’t stop until her family was given answers.</span></p> <p><span>"They're sitting there waiting to die. They're hoping to not move them to hospital. How are they going to survive? Just sit there and get worse? Get them out," Ms Fahey told the program.</span></p> <p><span>"It's a no-brainer for any normal Australian."</span></p> <p><span>Ann was taken to Nepean Hospital – the only Newmarch House resident to be taken to hospital with coronavirus – a day after workers discovered her collapsed in her room with a fever and the virus.</span></p> <p><span>"The infection control at the ICU unit...what I saw, in comparison to that home and that room ... if that wasn't able to be facilitated at Newmarch, get them out," Ms Fahey said.</span></p> <p><span>"Why weren't they at the hospital? Why weren't they all in those ICU rooms? Give them a chance."</span></p> <p><span>Nicole revealed that she was taken to hospital only after she contacted the media with her story – but it was too late. </span></p> <p><span>Anne died hours later, her body taken over by the virus.</span></p> <p><span>"Her lungs were completely ravaged and damaged by COVID to the point where they weren't working either. And we just all stood there and we literally couldn't believe how fast that happened. She was having coffees and brunch, like, a few weeks before," Ms Fahey said.</span></p> <p><span>"She can't even have a coffee, and that was really hard. Any death is horrible, but I think with the poor communication that we had over the last month, there has to be an inquiry. This has to be looked into, because it shouldn't have happened."</span></p> <p><span>That is one of many cases as many distressed family members have complained about the negligent care the residents received.</span></p> <p><span>Addressing the criticism at the height of the home's virus outbreak, Anglicare Sydney CEO Grant Millard said it had been a "monumental challenge" to staff Newmarch House.</span></p> <p><span>"Getting that staff in there who know what they're doing, who are guaranteed to turn up, that is a day-by-day challenge," Mr Millard said in May.</span></p> <p><span>"We've reached out to not only our own agency supplies, but eight aged care agencies who do supply staff. We've gone to local hospitals, private hospitals, seeking to get more staff, and it has been a monumental challenge."</span></p> <p><span>After four people died at the home in one day, Mr Millard again grappled to offer his sympathies.</span><br /><span>"To see them dying so quickly in these circumstances, despite the best medical care and attention that's been given to them and with the full staffing we have on board now, it's still a situation of significant grief and trauma," he said in May.</span></p> <p><span>"At the end of the day, we are just one humble nursing home trying to look after people who we love and care for, and this is stretching everybody."</span></p> <p><span>It's believed the outbreak started after a staff member infected with the virus, but only showing very mild symptoms, continued to work.</span></p> <p><span>A total of 37 residents and 34 staff tested positive at the Anglicare-run facility in western Sydney while 19 residents died.</span></p> <p><span>"This extraordinary challenge also highlighted the compassion and dedication of our staff, some of whom had to self-isolate and others who continued to work in difficult and unprecedented circumstances to maintain the care of all our residents," an Anglicare spokesman said in a statement on June 15, after the outbreak was declared over.</span></p> <p><span>"While the outbreak is now over, the virus remains active within the community. Anglicare must remain vigilant in screening and infection control at Newmarch House, and across all our other aged care homes."</span></p>

“She slipped”: Grandfather speaks out about 1-year-old granddaughter’s fatal fall on cruise ship

<p>A northern Indiana grandfather has insisted that he had no idea a cruise ship window was open when his granddaughter, 18 month old Chloe Wiegand, fell to her death on a cruise ship.</p> <p>"I didn't realise there wasn't any glass until the absolutely that it was too late," Salvatore Anello told "<em><a rel="noopener" href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cruise-ship-death-salvatore-anello-grandfather-charged-death-of-chloe-wiegand-says-hes-colorblind/" target="_blank">CBS This Morning</a></em>" in a story that aired Tuesday.</p> <p>"When she first fell, I thought she fell in front of me. She slipped."</p> <p>Police initially said that Salvatore Anello told officers he lost his grip while holding the girl.</p> <p>Prosecutors have since charged Anello last month with negligent homicide in the death of his 18-month-old granddaughter.</p> <p>If convicted, the charge carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison.</p> <p>When asked about the case, Anello said he’s devastated.</p> <p>"Chloe being gone is the worst thing ever so I'm like, whatever, you know," Anello said. "There's nothing worse that they could do to me than what's already happened."</p> <p>"Whether, you know, they find me guilty of whatever or not. It's inconsequential because of what has already happened is so horrible," Anello said.</p> <p>The grandfather also said that his colour blindness might have impacted whether or not he was able to see the glass.</p> <p>"Some of the people who've been on the boat have written to me and said, 'David, the windows are tinted, and so it is pretty easy to recognize that it's open,'" CBS News correspondent David Begnaud said.</p> <p>"I'm colourblind, David," Anello said. "I don't know. I just never saw it. … I've been told that that's a reason that it might have happened."</p> <p>Anello is scheduled to appear in court in Puerto Rico on December, 17th .</p>
