Their intention, as they celebrated their impending union, was also to announce the impending arrival of their first child.

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, in a gesture of solidarity and support, friends, family and even strangers have rallied around Lilly in her time of need. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to provide some solace amidst the darkness that has enveloped her life. The outpouring of generosity has been overwhelming, with more than $52,000 raised in just six hours since the campaign's inception.

Melinda Kelly, an old friend of Lilly's, wrote: "Tragically, on Saturday night, Lilly’s world was shattered by a freak accident that claimed the life of her beloved fiancé, Senior Constable Liam Trimmer.

"The evening was meant to be a joyous celebration of Lilly and Liam’s recent engagement and announcing their pregnancy, a huge milestone in their journey together. Friends and family gathered to share in their happiness. In a cruel twist of events, Liam’s life was cut short leaving behind a void that can never be filled.

"Lilly, a dedicated Clinical Registered Nurse at Royal Perth Hospital, now finds herself navigating uncharted waters. While no amount of money can bring back Liam or erase the pain of his loss, we hope to ease the burden that now weighs heavily on Lilly’s shoulders. The funds raised will enable her to access the support she needs, from counselling to covering the costs of daily living and preparing for the arrival of her baby.

"Lilly’s resilience and unwavering spirit have always been her defining qualities, and now, more than ever, she needs our love and support. Let us come together as a community to rally around her in this time of need, offering whatever assistance we can to help her navigate the challenging road ahead. Together, we can help light the path forward for Lilly and honor the memory of the man she loved so dearly."

Liam Trimmer's contributions to the police force have not gone unnoticed. Described as "skilful" and possessing a "great sense of humour" and "passion to excel" by his colleagues, Liam was a respected member of the force who approached his duties with dedication and courage. His loss has been deeply felt within the police community, where he was admired for his unwavering commitment to serving and protecting the public.

As tributes pour in from across the region, it is evident that Liam's legacy will endure through the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.

Images: Facebook \ GoFundMe

Shocking twist on teen accused of pushing elderly man off pier

Just hours after a 14-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly shoving an elderly man off the Mornington Peninsula pier, the teenager has been accused of previously assaulting a woman.

Jamie Tilbrook, 35, was allegedly bashed by the same group of teens who pushed the 79-year-old off the pier.

Shocking CCTV footage of the alleged attack showed two boys throwing a series of punches towards Ms Tilbrook's head in broad daylight, after she confronted them for vandalising a bus and tipping bins over.

"I said, 'What the f--- are you doing?' They turn around and jump me," she said.

"Two boys just come and started smashing me in the head. I was telling my girlfriend to get away, like, I didn't want her to get attacked."

The 35-year-old had to be rushed to hospital after losing consciousness and spent a night at The Alfred, where doctors had to glue her wound shut.

Ms Tilbrook told 9News that she no longer goes out and night and has to constantly watch her back after the alleged assault.

The incident came just two months before the alleged attack of the elderly man, and the 14-year-old boy was on bail when he pushed the man off the pier.

Ms Tilbrook revealed she was "disgusted" that the same boy who was charged after allegedly assaulting her, was now accused of pushing a fisherman off the pier.

His friends had filmed the horrific incident before posting it online.

9News revealed that the teenager has since been charged over the assault and allegedly breaching his bail conditions.

He will reportedly face children's court at a later date.

Images: 9News

Twist for cop accused of killing Clare Nowland

Senior Constable Kristian James Samuel White, 33, who was accused of killing 95-year-old Clare Nowland with a taser at an aged care home in Cooma, regional NSW has been deemed a “flight risk”.

White was charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault over the alleged “excessive use of force”.

It is alleged that Nowland was using a walker and holding a serrated steak knife at the time of the incident, when the 33-year-old said “stop, just … nah bugger it” before allegedly tasering her.

The great-grandmother fell backwards and fractured her skull, causing an inoperable brain injury that unfortunately led to her death just days later.

Just last week, White's charges were upgraded to include an additional charge of manslaughter on advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

White appeared in court on Wednesday, for the first time since his charges were upgraded, and received two new bail conditions.

The Constable was required to surrender his passport and not leave the country due to the upgraded charges.

However, prior to his bail conditions being approved, Magistrate Roger Clisdell criticised both Crown prosecutor Victoria Garrity, and White's defence lawyer Warwick Anderson for negotiating the new terms of bail without his input.

“I make the decision,” he said.

“I would have thought my last explosion would have caused you to be more sensitive to my position.”

This comes after the prosecutors failed to tell the Magistrate that they had agreed to allow White to appear in court via video link in May, without the court's consent.

The Crown prosecutor defended her actions by saying that she asked him to surrender his passport to mitigate the risk of flight.

“With the more serious charge now being faced, there is a heightened risk that he would leave the jurisdiction and not face court,” she explained.

“Those two new conditions are now appropriate.”

While the police officer's defence lawyer added that “He has no intention of fleeing the jurisdiction," and agreed to the additional bail conditions “to facilitate the speedy resolution”.

White will return to court in February next year.

Nowland's family members released a statement via their lawyer after the proceedings on Wednesday.

“The family does not wish to comment further on the criminal process at this time given the extremely serious nature of the charge against Mr White, who continues to be a sworn NSW police officer,” the statement read.

NSW Police confirmed that White remained suspended from duty with pay.

Images: ABC News South East NSW: Floss Adams/ News.com.au

"Their memories will live on forever": Tragic twist as young brothers lost in car crash identified

Two young lives were tragically cut short in a devastating car crash in the southern part of Sydney. The victims, young brothers Xavier and Peter Abreu, aged ten and nine, are being remembered for their innocence and vibrancy as the community mourns their loss. The incident occurred on Friday night August 25 when the Subaru WRX they were travelling in collided with a tree along Grand Parade in Monterey at approximately 9:50pm.

The boys' relative, Jimmy Martin Brito, 33, who was also driving the vehicle and is the father of a nine-year-old girl who was a passenger and sustained minor injuries, has been taken into custody and charged in connection to the incident. He faces charges including two counts of dangerous driving causing death and one count of causing bodily harm by misconduct.

In the wake of this tragic event, the boys' stepmother, Jivonne Garrido, has established a fundraising campaign to support the grieving family. She expressed in a GoFundMe post on Sunday that while the boys' lives were tragically cut short, their memories will forever remain with the family.

"The beautiful boys lost their lives in tragic circumstances however their memories will live on forever with the family Father Samuel Mother Olivia, brothers Alex and Jacob along with Auntie Joanne and Grandmother Dimitria."

"We thank everyone who has already shown the size of their hearts with heartfelt messages and flowers at the site and call for assistance from the public that this event may resonate with. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

The legal proceedings surrounding the incident have begun, with police alleging that Brito was operating the vehicle recklessly, leading to the fatal crash. Brito was expected to appear in court for a hearing, but it was adjourned due to his ongoing recovery from injuries sustained in the crash. His defence lawyer, Fahim Arya, conveyed that his client has had limited communication with his sister, the mother of the two boys who passed away while he was in the hospital. Despite her distress, the mother is reportedly standing by Brito.

Mr Arya said the mother was 'distraught and distressed' but 'still supports and stands by him.' He added that Brito was 'fresh out of surgery' and on medication as he begins his long road to recovery. 'I don't know if he knows the two little ones have lost their lives,' Mr Arya said.

While the legal process unfolds, the community has united in grief, visiting the crash site to pay their respects to the young brothers. A makeshift memorial has been established at the tree where the accident occurred, adorned with flowers and teddy bears. The profound impact of the crash is evident, with marks etched into the tree and debris scattered around the area.

Authorities are looking into the possibility of street racing playing a role in the tragedy. They are particularly interested in locating a grey sedan believed to have been present during the incident, as captured by CCTV. The investigation aims to determine whether the Subaru and the grey sedan were involved in street racing prior to the collision.

For anyone with relevant information, dash cam footage, or CCTV recordings, the police urge you to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation. Information can be shared with the authorities or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.

Image: GoFundMe

Major twist in BBC presenter scandal

A damning scandal surrounding a high-profile BBC presenter has grown after a second victim has come forward against the anonymous personality.

Just days after an exclusive report from The Sun claimed a well-known presenter for the public broadcaster had paid a teenager for explicit images, another woman has now claimed she was contacted online by the star.

She said the presenter sent “abusive and menacing” messages online, and “felt threatened” when she refused to meet up with the presenter in person.

They recognised the presenter after connecting on a dating app and, the BBC reported, “hinted they might name” them which led to a number of “abusive expletive filled messages”.

“The young person said they had been scared by the power the presenter held,” BBC News reported.

“They said the threats made in the messages … had frightened them, and they remain scared.”

The person, in their early twenties, has no connection to the first person who came forward with the allegations.

The presenter, who has yet to be named, has not commented on the allegations.

These new allegations come just days after the first victim's family came forward and accused the anonymous presenter for sending their teenager a total of £35,000 ($67,000AUD) for explicit pictures over a three year period.

The correspondence with the presenter allegedly began when the first person was just 17 years old, with the mother of the person, now in their twenties, saying the money was funding a dangerous drug habit.

The mother said of the BBC presenter, “When I see him on telly, I feel sick. I blame this BBC man for destroying my child’s life.”

In a statement on Sunday, the BBC confirmed that it "first became aware of a complaint in May".

"New allegations were put to us on Thursday of a different nature and in addition to our own enquiries we have also been in touch with external authorities, in line with our protocols," it added.

The statement said that "a male member of staff has been suspended".

"This is a complex and fast moving set of circumstances and the BBC is working as quickly as possible to establish the facts in order to properly inform appropriate next steps," the BBC added.

London's Metropolitan Police released a statement later on Sunday confirming the BBC contacted it over the matter, "but no formal referral or allegation has been made".

“How dare you”: Drew Barrymore slams tabloids for twisting her words

Drew Barrymore has hit back at tabloids after a quote that she said in a New York Magazine profile was taken out of context.

In the original interview with the magazine, Drew opened up about her tumultuous childhood with her mother.

“All their mums are gone, and my mum’s not. And I’m like, ‘Well, I don’t have that luxury.’ But I cannot wait,” she told New York Magazine.

“I don’t want to live in a state where I wish for someone to be gone sooner than they’re meant to be so I can grow. I actually want her to be happy and thrive and be healthy. But I have to f***ing grow in spite of her being on this planet.”

Later on in the interview the actress shared her remorse for her harsh comments.

“I dared to say it, and I didn’t feel good,” she said.

“I do care. I’ll never not care. I don’t know if I’ve ever known how to fully guard, close off, not feel, build the wall up.”

The actress blamed “tabloids” for the quotes which claimed that she “cannot wait” for her mother, Jaid Barrymore, to die, and posted a furious response video to Instagram.

“To all you tabloids out there, you have been f**king with my life since I was 13 years old. I have never said that I wished my mother was dead,” she said.

“How dare you put those words in my mouth. I have been vulnerable and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive and that, for those of us who have to figure that out in real time cannot wait... as in they cannot wait for the time, not that the parent is dead.”

“Don’t twist my words around or ever say that I wish my mother was dead,” she continued. “I have never said that. I never would. In fact, I go on to say that I wish that I never have to live an existence where I would wish that on someone, because that is sick.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Drew Barrymore (@drewbarrymore)

The E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial actress has been open about her strained relationship with her mum who acted as her manager and took her to Hollywood parties as a child.

At 12-years-old the actress was in rehab for drugs and alcohol and then a year later her mum had put her in a psychiatric ward in California.

Drew also told the magazine that despite never fully reconciling with her mum, she doesn’t “blame” Jaid for the challenges in her life.

“I choose very consciously not to see my life as things that have been done to me,” she said.

“I want to see it as the things I did and chose to do. Twist in Andrew O’Keefe’s assault case

Former television personality Andrew O’Keefe faced Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court this morning to learn that his assault charges had been dropped.

It was alleged that Andrew had choked, punched, and kicked a 38-year-old woman in a Sydney unit early in 2022.

Andrew has maintained that he acted in self defence. In court, his legal team claimed that the woman attacked him with a cricket bat and scissors, and that he was forced to take action to defend himself.

It was alleged that the pair - who had developed a friendship after Andrew employed her for her sex work services - got into an argument after he called in a $20,000 debt, and the woman requested more money for a potential business.

He was due to fight the allegations but the charges - including common assault, intentional choking, and assault occasioning bodily harm - were withdrawn after the woman he was accused of choking left the country.

“They are not in the jurisdiction and our capacity to have the witness appear has been unsuccessful,” police prosecutor Michael Cleaver told the court. “The prosecution case relies significantly on one single civilian witness who has left the country.”

Despite the twist in Andrew’s case, he still faces charges including resisting arrest, drug possession, and domestic violence relating to a different incident with another woman.

In June 2021, charges against him were approached under the NSW Mental Health Act, and he avoided a domestic violence conviction.

In May 2022, the NSW Supreme Court granted Andrew strict bail to reside at a Port Stephens long-term residential rehabilitation facility, in the hope of him tackling his cocaine, ice and cannabis abuse.

The 51-year-old’s life has changed drastically from his days in the spotlight with Channel 7, where he appeared as host on many of their top shows - from Deal or No Deal to Weekend Sunrise, and most recently The Chase Australia.

Andrew is also a former chairman of White Ribbon Australia, an organisation with the goal of preventing violence against women. This work even led to him being appointed to the inaugural National Council for the Prevention of Violence Against Women in 2008, long before his 2021 domestic violence arrest.

Andrew is set to front a two-day hearing for the remaining charges against him.

Images: Getty

Gruesome twist in how secret lover campers were killed

When the bodies of Russell Hill and Carol Clay were discovered in bushland in February, mystery surrounded the exact circumstances of their death.

The burned remains of Ms Clay, 73, and Mr Hill, 74 were located by Victoria Police Missing Persons Squad detectives on November 30th - just days after former Jetstar pilot Gregory Lynn was arrested for being responsible for their disappearance and subsequent death.

On Monday, the Melbourne Magistrates' Court heard a ballistics expert would play a crucial role in the alleged killer's upcoming preliminary hearing, which is scheduled to run over four days in January.

It is the first time any information on how police allege Lynn killed the elderly couple has been revealed in public.

The court heard Victorian homicide detectives had compiled a whopping 773-page brief of evidence against Lynn, which included the fact that the couple had allegedly been shot before their bodies were burned and dumped in the bush.

Lynn's high profile criminal barrister Dermot Dann, QC, said he he eager to cross examine ballistics expert Paul Griffiths, saying, "Mr Griffiths is an important witness dealing with the bullet trajectory and so forth."

While detectives were keen to release information on the case to the public when Lynn was under investigation, few details have been made public since he was taken into custody.

The 55-year old man from Caroline Springs in Melbourne's west remains in custody after being charged with the couple's murders.

Disturbing twist in children's suitcase homicide

The two suitcases that contained the bodies of siblings in Auckland were reportedly moved from one unit storage to another before the harrowing discovery.

Two children’s bodies were discovered in suitcases by an Auckland family who purchased the bags at an auction on August 11.

It has now been revealed that the suitcases were moved in the second half of 2021 between different storage units at the same SafeStore Papatoetoe facility, NZ Herald reported.

A worker told the publication that there were dead flies and rats around the bags but no smell to indicate anything more damning.

A SafeStore spokesperson refused to comment due to the ongoing police investigation in which a woman from South Korea, believed to be the children’s mother was arrested. The 42-year-old woman was arrested by local police following a request from NZ Police.

"South Korean authorities arrested the woman today on a Korean arrest warrant pursuant to two charges of murder relating to the two young victims," Detective Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua said at the time of the arrest.

"The arrest warrant was issued by the Korean Courts as a result of a request by NZ Police for an arrest warrant under the extradition treaty between New Zealand and the Republic of Korea (South Korea).

“NZ Police have applied to have her extradited back to New Zealand to face the charges and have requested she remain in custody whilst awaiting the completion of the extradition process.”

At the time, Detective Inspector Vaaelua suggested that the children were aged 10 and five respectively when they died four years ago.

The family who purchased the property where the suitcases were found are not involved in the deaths and have asked for privacy.

Images: NZ Herald

Brutalism is back with a luxury twist

Known for bold lines, stark colours and minimalist designs, brutalism has come back into the fore, this time with some added luxury.

Though the hallmarks of the controversial architectural trend remain - think clean lines, a colour scheme featuring grey, and concrete as a material of choice - this new iteration emphases beauty and comfort.

"We call this look Brutal Beauty - it celebrates the popular architectural and interior aesthetic of Brutalism, but in a more inviting and appealing way," Heather Nette King, an interior stylist and style ambassador for Carpet Court, explains.

"Designers and architects are putting a contemporary spin on the Brutalist aesthetic by using raw concrete in new and inventive ways – think kitchen islands, furniture, benchtops, cabinetry and even home accessories. And they’re introducing contrasting materials, such as beautiful, textured fabrics and luxurious metallics, to add softness and elegance.

“It’s a celebration of contrasts, resulting in homes that speak of minimalism, yet feel refined, sophisticated and supremely comfortable."

The revived trend of Brutalism, known as Brutal Beauty, features raw concrete, minimalist design, and luxurious accents. Image: Carpet Court

Using raw concrete as a primary design element has surged in recent years according to King, appearing in new builds and extensions across the country.

"It speaks of strength, authenticity and our growing desire to live more simply – the idea of building once and building well," she adds.

“As a look, Brutal Beauty works particularly well in new dwellings or contemporary renovations where architectural ornamentation is quite minimal."

If you're thinking of incorporating some aspects of Brutal Beauty into your home, Nette King has four top tips to help you out.

Rein in the colours

When it comes to Brutalism and colour, a minimal selection is best. Nette King recommends setting the mood of your home with layers and light and dark greys across your flooring and upholstery, accented with bold black art and accessories.

To keep your spaces feeling open and bright, she suggests using white on your walls and ceilings.

Opt for furniture with strong, sculptured lines

Brutalism is all about defined lines and minimalism, which you can embrace with minimalist seating and coffee and dining tables with simple, curved lines.

Bold artworks, a limited colour palette and furniture with simple, curved lines are hallmarks of Brutal Beauty. Image: Carpet Court

Comfort is key

Unlike its predecessor, luxury and comfort are key considerations. Nette King suggests furnishing your spaces with deep-seated sofas, upholstered bedheads and tactile bedlinen to emphasise the sense of luxury.

Add warmth with timber

With critics of Brutalism describing its limited colour scheme as cold, selecting cabinetry or furniture featuring rich timber tones, such as walnut, can help you avoid this and create some cosiness in your home.

Images: Carpet Court

"Only the good die young": Tragic twist in honeymoon death

The newlywed bride who died in a tragic golf buggy incident on Hamilton Island was due to get married last year but instead it was delayed because of Covid.

Marina Hanna, 29, and husband Robbie Morgan were due to get married on July 24, 2021 but because of lockdown and density limits they decided to delay their ceremony.

But it wasn't until June 11, 2022, that the loved-up pair were finally able to say their vows in a lavish ceremony at Sydney’s Doltone House.

The newlyweds then finally made their way to Queensland’s Hamilton Island for their honeymoon.

The pair were travelling on a golf buggy - the main form of transportation on the island on June 20 when Morgan did a U-turn, causing the buggy to tip over.

A doctor, off-duty dentist and off-duty firefighter rushed to the scene and desperately performed CPR for 35 minutes on Marina, who unfortunately could not be revived.

“(This) is proof that the good die young,” Robbie’s brother Matty said of Marina’s passing.

Queensland Police Inspector Anthony Cowan announced in a press conference that Marina was not wearing a seatbelt while in the buggy.

“It was just a tragic accident with a golf buggy,” he said.

“There may have been some inexperience driving those type of vehicles while turning it has rolled on its side and the woman has fallen out and sustained life-threatening injuries.”

“It just appears inexperience in driving that type of vehicle, turned too quick and rolled on its side and unfortunately, it has ended up with this result.

“It appears there was no seatbelt worn at this point in time; we come back to the Fatal Five but now is not the time to dwell on what they should have done.”

Inspector Cowan confirmed that no drugs, alcohol or dangerous driving caused the accident.

Images: Instagram
