“How dare you”: Drew Barrymore slams tabloids for twisting her words

Drew Barrymore has hit back at tabloids after a quote that she said in a New York Magazine profile was taken out of context.

In the original interview with the magazine, Drew opened up about her tumultuous childhood with her mother.

“All their mums are gone, and my mum’s not. And I’m like, ‘Well, I don’t have that luxury.’ But I cannot wait,” she told New York Magazine.

“I don’t want to live in a state where I wish for someone to be gone sooner than they’re meant to be so I can grow. I actually want her to be happy and thrive and be healthy. But I have to f***ing grow in spite of her being on this planet.”

Later on in the interview the actress shared her remorse for her harsh comments.

“I dared to say it, and I didn’t feel good,” she said.

“I do care. I’ll never not care. I don’t know if I’ve ever known how to fully guard, close off, not feel, build the wall up.”

The actress blamed “tabloids” for the quotes which claimed that she “cannot wait” for her mother, Jaid Barrymore, to die, and posted a furious response video to Instagram.

“To all you tabloids out there, you have been f**king with my life since I was 13 years old. I have never said that I wished my mother was dead,” she said.

“How dare you put those words in my mouth. I have been vulnerable and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive and that, for those of us who have to figure that out in real time cannot wait... as in they cannot wait for the time, not that the parent is dead.”

“Don’t twist my words around or ever say that I wish my mother was dead,” she continued. “I have never said that. I never would. In fact, I go on to say that I wish that I never have to live an existence where I would wish that on someone, because that is sick.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Drew Barrymore (@drewbarrymore)

The E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial actress has been open about her strained relationship with her mum who acted as her manager and took her to Hollywood parties as a child.

At 12-years-old the actress was in rehab for drugs and alcohol and then a year later her mum had put her in a psychiatric ward in California.

Drew also told the magazine that despite never fully reconciling with her mum, she doesn’t “blame” Jaid for the challenges in her life.

“I choose very consciously not to see my life as things that have been done to me,” she said.

“I want to see it as the things I did and chose to do. Tabloid slammed for bizarre photoshop edit of Kate Middleton

British publication The Mirror appears to have edited a photo of Kate Middleton to the point where she is almost unrecognisable.

The popular UK-based tabloid covered a story about the Royal Family attending a Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph in London recently.

Joining Kate Middleton at the event were King Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William and the Princess of Wales. Despite the attendance of the other royals, the outlet still chose to use a sombre photo of Catherine on the front page.

The tabloid was then widely called out for the bizarre photoshop edit of that image. A very confused audience took to social media, calling out the publication for the rough photoshop hatchet job of the Princess.

When i saw an image of kate doing rounds on Twitter, i thought it was photoshoped. Karl Stefanovic's ex-wife Cassandra breaks silence over tabloid lies

Karl Stefanovic’s ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn has penned an open letter, hitting out at the tabloid lies about her relationship, and pleading with the industry not to compare to the Today show host’s current partner Jasmine Yarbrough.

In a lengthy online column for Now To Love, Thorburn criticised New Idea for publishing a story that suggested she was plotting a “final revenge” against Stefanovic through her links to Lisa Wilkinson, who switched networks earlier this year.

“The story in today’s New Idea magazine linking me to Lisa Wilkinson and some purported pact to get ‘final revenge’ is totally baseless and utterly incorrect,” Thorburn wrote.

The latest issue of New Idea claimed Thorburn was “weeks away” from a significant career move, “that could make her even more successful than her Logie-winning ex”.

The article an anonymous source which read: “Nothing would give her more satisfaction than beating Karl at his own game after everything he’s done to her.”

But Thorburn, who finalised her divorce with Stefanovic in October, said these claims were completely baseless and that she’s “not aware” of any new jobs.

“... I know the magazine has not spoken to any of my close friends. Shame on them for dragging my loyal support network into this.”

She added: “As this pathetic article suggests, I don’t feel the need to exact revenge on Karl for leaving me — I’m just happy to be starting a new chapter of my life. I’m most content spending time with my three children and making plans for our future.”

Thorburn also rubbished suggestions that Stefanovic was taking Yarbrough to public events that he had neglected to take her two when the pair were together as a couple.

“I went to everything from Derby Day to fashion shows,” she wrote. “I find it very hurtful they feel the need to compare Karl’s new girlfriend Jasmine with me.

“Karl and I created 21 years of memories — there’s certainly no competition between our years together and their lives now. As I said to Woman’s Day recently, the children still have a father, but I don’t have a husband.

“I’m a busy stay-at-home mum — I’ve got a book to finish, and three young people to feed and love.”

What are your thoughts?

Image credit: Twitter / Cassandra Thorburn

Tracy Grimshaw slams tabloid claims she’s fighting secret battle

She’s the long-time host of A Current Affair, appearing in people’s TV screens five nights a week, but Tracy Grimshaw has faced a persistent rumour that she suffers from “crippling shyness”.

But in an interview in the September issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly, Grimshaw has slammed the reports that she is so “introverted that it affects her daily life” as “rubbish”.

The 57-year-old said, “That is simply not true. Anyone who knows me will tell you that is not true. I certainly don't suffer from ‘crippling shyness’”.

She added, “And I'm really glad to be able to correct that... That really is rubbish, but I don't tie myself up in knots about it.”

Last year, New Idea claimed that “Tracy has battled shyness her entire career...she is so introverted it actually affects her daily life

“The person you see on TV is not the same person you would meet on the street.”

The report also claimed the journalist doesn’t like meeting new people.

However, Grimshaw soundly refuted those claims, telling AWW that, “sometimes rubbish is written about you”.

In fact, Grimshaw reveals that she’s in a great place in her life.

“I live in paradise,” she told the publication. “I love where I live. I am happy – very happy – satisfied and very grateful, too.

“In a way this is my sanctuary where I am free to be myself and just be who I am. I’m grateful because I know I am lucky – I have been in the right place at the right time during my career and that has helped me along the way. Of course, it hasn’t all been luck and I’d like to think that I’ve brought something to the table all these years but I know luck has played a big part, too.”
