Madonna sued by fans over concert starting late

Madonna is being sued by two former fans, after her concert started more than two hours behind schedule.

The lawsuit was filed in Brooklyn federal court on Wednesday, with New York residents and former fans Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden saying the pop star’s actions were "unconscionable and unfair.”

The men are suing the veteran performer for "deceptive trade practices" and "false advertisement", after they attended her concert at the New York Barclays Center last December.

As per the flyers for the show, Madonna was set to take to the stage at 8:30pm, but the highly-anticipated show didn’t begin until well after 10:30pm.

The complainants said that the callous delay resulted in the fans facing issues like "limited public transportation, limited ride-sharing, and/or increased public and private transportation costs" after the show on December 13th ended past midnight.

According to Fellows and Hadden, this constitutes a breach of contract.

"Madonna had demonstrated flippant difficulty in ensuring a timely or complete performance, and Defendants were aware that any statement as to a start time for a show constituted, at best, optimistic speculation," the statement read.

The lawsuit went on to claim that Madonna’s disregard for timeliness was not an isolated incident, with her following two shows also starting hours behind schedule.

They said the performer's actions "constitute not just a breach of their contracts but also a wanton exercise in false advertising" and "negligent misrepresentation."

Madonna has a history of beginning her shows late, the case claims: "Throughout her 2016 Rebel Heart Tour, her 2019-2020 Madame X Tour, and prior tours... Madonna continuously started her concerts over two hours late," with this history constituting a class-action status for the lawsuit.

Back in 2016, Madonna was called out for her late behaviour, dismissively joking, “I’m hardly ever late. It’s you people that get here early that’s the problem. Just come late and I won’t have to come early.”

Madonna breaks silence after hospitalisation

Madonna has finally issued a health update after being rushed to hospital on June 27 when she was found unresponsive.

The 64-year-old singer took to Instagram to announce that she is rescheduling the North American leg of her world tour following her hospitalisation.

"Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement. I have felt your love," the Material Girl wrote.

“I'm on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life," she added.

She then revealed her thoughts after waking up in hospital.

"My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. I hate to disappoint anyone."

"My focus now is my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I'll be back with you as soon as I can," she added.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Madonna (@madonna)

The singer has six kids: Lourdes, Rocco, David, Mercy, and twins Stella and Estere.

The Celebration tour which was scheduled to kick off on July 15 in Vancouver, Canada, has been postponed and she is set to begin her European tour in October.

Following Madonna’s post, entertainment company Live Nation confirmed that all the North American dates of the tour have been postponed.

"Fans are encouraged to hold onto their tickets as they will be valid for the new dates once announced," the statement read.

Image: Instagram

I've done a few interviews with her. She treats it like a sport," Wilkins revealed.

In the interview, Wilkins played a drinking game with the singer, where she told him that their chat would not be "your average interview".

"One of the last interviews I did with her she had a bottle of tequila and two shot glasses. She said if you ask a really good question, I'll have a shot and if you ask a really stupid question you have to have a shot."

As the interview went on the two shot glasses remained empty.

At one point, the singer let out an expletive in response to one of Wilkins’ questions and immediately apologised, to which Wilkins jokingly asked whether she should have a shot for swearing.

"No, that's not part of the... I make up the rules to this game, OK," she quipped, with a smile creeping across her lips.

The two were super competitive as the bottle of tequila remained untouched throughout the interview.

When they discussed Madonna’s thirteenth album Rebel Heart, Wilkins finally broke the streak after asking her a question about changing her image.

Without uttering a word Madonna pours him a shot, to which Wilkins groans, “Oh come on”.

“I always answer the same way,” the singer justified and then told Wilkins to “drink up”.

Wilkins recalled this moment as if it happened yesterday.

"I said, this new record, you know you're going in a different direction... 'Oh, the reinvention question, alright here you go'," he recalled, miming pouring a drink.

"It was all fun and games, but you've got to be on your toes when you interview Madonna, because she does not take any prisoners,” he added.

Image: 9Honey

Madonna releases “controversial” 20 year old music video

Pop veteran Madonna has finally released the music video for her hit song American Life, 20 years after it was filmed.

The video, which is arguably her most controversial yet, was originally set to come out in 2003, but was scrapped at the last minute due to overwhelming negative press.

While the song itself was a wry look at Madonna’s own experiences of fame and success, the original video was instead a graphic commentary on the then-imminent American invasion of Iraq.

Shot just weeks before the war began, the video shows Madonna and her posse of backup dancers all wearing army garb, preparing for a fashion show that sees soldiers walk the catwalk alongside victims of war.

The “fashion” show is observed by disinterested fashion experts, who watch on with impassive faces as violence breaks out on the catwalk, with blood and guts spilling everywhere.

Had it have been released at the time of growing tensions between the US and Iraq, the video would’ve been heavily censored, or even banned, due to the numerous graphic depictions of violence, with dismembered and disembowelled victims laying on the runway.

In response to the outrage, Madonna said the video would never see the light of day.

“I have decided not to release my new video. It was filmed before the war started and I do not believe it is appropriate to air it at this time. Due to the volatile state of the world and out of sensitivity and respect to the armed forces, who I support and pray for, I do not want to risk offending anyone who might misinterpret the meaning of this video,” she said in 2003.

Now, two decades later, Madonna’s finally officially released the original music video on her official YouTube channel to mark the album’s 20th anniversary.

You can watch the video here, but be warned that viewer discretion is advised.

Despite the backlash that occurred when the video was first filmed, many fans are glad the unseen footage has finally been released.

The video has racked up hundreds of thousands of views in less than a week, and multiple comments praising the pop veteran for her bold statement.

One commenter wrote, “This video is not only iconic but also a powerful and still relevant message to this day. I'm glad it finally got an official release after all these years!”

World-renowned chef shares strangest celeb requests

World-renowned and chef-to-the-stars Jeff Schroeter has had the privilege of catering for some of the world’s biggest names and deepest pockets, and it hasn’t come without its share of surprises.

While chatting on I’ve Got News For You, a news.com.au podcast, Schroeter has named some of the strangest requests to come through his kitchen, as well as the familiar faces behind them.

First up came Anna Wintour, who has served as Vogue’s editor-in-Chief since 1988 and harbours a not-so-secret craving for tuna in a tin.

“She used to dine at least once or twice a week and had a special table … but she’ll go through different phases [of eating],” Schroeter explained.

“And during one phase, we had a beautiful tuna niçoise - everyone ate it,” he continued, before noting that “she didn’t like fresh tuna, so she used to bring her own canned tuna and hand it to the waiter, who handed it to the busboy, and [he’d] bring it down to the kitchen.

“So I’d make this beautiful niçoise salad, and then open a tin of tuna, and just put it on top. And she loved it.”

In another bizarre move by the fashion elite, German designer Karl Lagerfeld once arrived at one of Schroeter’s restaurants with a group of “about 10 to 12” and a request that sent the kitchen scrambling.

According to Schroeter, Lagerfeld and his party had been in the mood for “an American hotdog with fries”. But there was just one problem - they didn’t “have any of that!”

All was not lost, of course, with the staff managing to come up with a solution. Before the clock struck midnight, a local street vendor saved them with a quick hot dog sale. And in a tale as old as time, McDonalds came to the rescue with the chips.

“We sent the other busboy to McDonald’s to buy the fries and come back,” Schroeter said, “we put it on plates, sent it out, and [Lagerfeld] said it was the best meal [he’d had] for a long time.”

In what is arguably Schroeter’s most notable diner, Queen Elizabeth often stopped by for her favourite dish. While not particularly unusual on its own, the order served as a clear sign to the kitchen that they had a very royal request on their hands.

Apparently, the “50 to 80” chefs who worked at London’s Savoy hotel alongside Schroeter could tell when they had a royal visitor, as “they’ve got heavily armed security guards coming through the kitchens with Alsatians.”

“[The royals] always dine in one of the seven private banquet rooms, but we’d know it was the Queen because she always loved the peach Melba,” he went on to explain. “So we knew when there were seven to 10 peach Melbas going to a private room, the Queen must be in the house.”

Schroeter also shared his experiences with pop royalty, opening up about the time he was hired - along with four other talented chefs - to cater for Madonna’s 37th birthday celebration.

“She booked out the place [the Delano Hotel in Miami] for her birthday, security all around, and she flew in four chefs from around the country,” Schroeter said, “and she picked each one for a particular dish that she loves to eat.

“And I was flown down for the one that I call ‘Madonna salmon’. It’s a particular type of salmon and we cut it as a butterfly, and we put it with crushed cucumber, dates, walnuts, shaved fennel, lemon juice, olive oil and sweet basil – then the whole dish just lightens the salmon.

“It’s healthy, it’s good for you … It was brilliant, three days down there and all I had to do was one dish. It was the best function I’ve had.”

Although he didn’t have the opportunity to properly chat to the music superstar, he came away with a good impression, telling I’ve Got News For You host Andrew Bucklow that she was a “lovely, lovely woman … especially when she knows you’re cooking her favourite dish.”

Images: Getty, @sallyb_sbco / Instagram

I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan so many years now gone,” he wrote.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Joe Henry (@joehenrymusic)

“As brother Dave Henry (who took this photograph) notes here, Anthony was a complex character; and god knows: we tangled in moments, as true brothers can. Madonna takes aim at "ageist" critics

Madonna has spoken out against wide-spread criticism of her appearance after presenting at the Grammy Awards.

The 64-year-old musician introduced Sam Smith and Kim Petras' performance of their hit song Unholy at the annual music award ceremony, but rather than focus on the "history making" performance, many were quick to comment on Madonna's appearance.

Following her moment on the stage, Madonna's social media was flooded with comments calling her scary, unrecognisable and denouncing her supposed "obsession with plastic surgery", despite the singer never confirming having cosmetic enhancements.

Hitting back at online trolls, Madonna took to Instagram to condemn the "ageism and misogyny" of her critics, while refusing to apologise for her "creative choices".

In a lengthy post, she wrote, "Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim - Many people chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera By a press photographer that Would distort anyone’s face!!"

"Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45, and feels the need to punish her if she continues to be strong willed, hard-working and adventurous."

She continued, "I have never apologised for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start. I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come."

She concluded the post by saying, "I look forward to many more years of subversive behaviour, pushing boundaries, standing up to the patriarchy, and most of all enjoying my life."

While her post was flooded with support from her celebrity friends, she also welcomed a new wave of criticism with many commenters thinking her anger was misdirected.

One person said, "Ok but there's an elephant in the room here - This is not ageism - it is plastic surgery and filler! How is this ageism when YOU did all this to yourself in order to prevent looking old? Give yourself a break from those fillers and stop blaming ageism for what you choose to do to yourself."

Madonna’s bizarre foray into the world of NFTs

Madonna has made a foray into the digital art world, ruffling a few feathers with the nature of her NFT artworks.

The pop superstar has collaborated with digital artist Beeple (whose real name is Mike Winkelmann) to produce three NFTs that depict Madonna as the mother of all creation.

The NFTs — entitled Mother of Nature, Mother of Evolution, and Mother of Technology — are all quite graphic, 3D-rendered videos of Madonna.

In the first, she is seen giving birth to a tree in a lab, before she is seen birthing various bugs and animals in the second and third images.

Artist Winkelmann shot to international fame after his Everydays series, a collection of digital drawings he made each day from May 2007, sold for $69.3 million at a Christie’s auction in 2021.

Proceeds from the auction of these Madonna NFTs will go to three different charities: The Voices of Children Foundation, a charity for women and children in Ukraine, The City of Joy, a leadership program for women of the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and Black Mama’s Bail Out, which uses funds to bail out Black women and caregivers from the carceral system.

“When Mike and I decided to collaborate on this project a year ago, I was excited to have the opportunity to share my vision of the world as a mother and an artist with Mike’s own unique point of view,” said Madonna in a press release.

“I wanted to investigate the concept of creation, not only the way a child enters the world through a woman’s vagina, but also the way an artist gives birth to creativity.”

Madonna flips The Weeknd's former LA estate

Music icon Madonna has successfully flipped this Los Angeles-area mansion for a huge profit.

The ‘Material Girl’ singer has listed her 3-acre Hidden Hills home for $25.9 million (A$36 million) just one year after buying it from R&B star The Weeknd.

That’s $6.7 million (A$9.3m) more than the $19.3 million (A$26.8m) the 63-year-old pop queen paid for the approximately 12,000-square-foot estate, which she bought from the singer in April 2021.

This time around, however, the house may actually sell at the steep asking price, thanks to the addition of a new gym and dance studio in the property’s barn.

The home features a saltwater pool, a basketball court, a 10-person spa, an indoor-outdoor bar, a formal dining room with a fireplace, a wine cellar, a five-car auto gallery, a home theatre and a two-bedroom, two-bathroom guesthouse with a full kitchen.

It also has plenty of room for guests, boasting nine bedrooms and eleven bathrooms throughout the main house and separate guesthouse. All seven of the main residence’s bedrooms have ensuite baths.

The interesting compound is also very well hidden, accessed via an “olive-tree lined drive & storybook bridge”.

The grounds are located on a “sun-drenched hillside” brimming with redwood trees in the gated Hidden Hills community, which is known for its many current and former famous residents.

Images: Domain

Pop legends Elton John and Madonna have had an ongoing feud for years as they battled against each other in the music charts.

However, things have come to a head as John has revealed in his latest autobiography, as he said that Madonna is “nasty and ungracious”.

After Madonna said that one of Lady Gaga’s hits Born This Way was “reductive”, John went in to defend his close friend.

He said: “Her tour is a disaster and it couldn’t happen to a bigger ****.

“If Madonna had any common sense, she would have made a record like Ray of Light, stayed away from the dance stuff and just been a great pop singer and made pop records, which she does brilliantly.

“But no, she had to prove that she was like…

“And she looks like a f****** fairground stripper.”

He revealed what really happened in his autobiography ‘Me: Elton John’.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Elton John (@eltonjohn) on Sep 24, 2019 at 10:44am PDT

He said: “I got that Gaga’s single ‘Born This Way’ definitely sounded similar to ‘Express Yourself’, but I couldn’t see why she was so ungracious and nasty about it, rather than taking it as a compliment when a new generation of artists was influenced by her, particularly when she claims to be a champion for women.”

He also said that due to his years-long friendship with interviewer Molly Meldrum, he did not expect the footage to be aired.

“Still, I shouldn’t have said it. I apologised afterwards when I bumped into her in a restaurant in France and she was very gracious about it.”

However, John ran his mouth later on, calling out Madonna for lip-syncing.

“Madonna, best live act? F*** off. Since when has lip-syncing been live?” John said in 2004 after accepting an award for classic songwriter at the 2004 Q Awards.

“Sorry about that, but I think everyone who lip-syncs on stage in public when you pay like 75 quid to see them should be shot. Thank you very much. That’s me off her Christmas card list, but do I give a toss? No.”

Madonna addressed the matter in 2012 backstage at the Golden Globes, after she won Best Original Song.

She said: “I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years. He’s known to get mad at me… He’ll win another award. I don’t feel bad.”

Denise Drysdale causes shockwaves with derogatory comment on Studio 10

Denise Drysdale has made a particularly unsavoury comment about one of the world’s most famous singers, calling her a “s**t” on a live broadcast of Studio 10.

In Thursday morning’s episode of the morning breakfast show, Drysdale made it apparent she wasn’t all that much of a fan of Madonna during a segment hosted by Angela Bishop.

The entertainment story on the world-famous celeb didn’t seem to take to the morning co-host who said: “I think she’s a s**t.

“There we go, I’ve said it," Drysdale remarked.

While the other co-hosts sat there stunned, Drysdale attempted to justify her comment by adding: “There’s things that she’s done over the years when she was younger. Some video tapes, sex, lies and videotapes or something like that, absolutely disgusting.”

Although Drysdale says she does not regret making the comments, she admitted she should have said “s****ish” instead.

“I don’t care, you can do Instagram, you can put it on your bloody Facebook … I don’t care,” she said.

This is not the first time the 70-year-old has received criticism. Last year the Studio 10 host confirmed she had thrown Brussels sprouts at her then work-mate Ita Buttrose while filming a Christmas segment at the Grounds of Alexandria in Sydney.

“I was in a jovial mood,” Drysdale explained to the Herald Sun.

“The Christmas party was that night and I could not go, so I had a couple of glasses of champagne towards the end of the day and I threw the Brussels sprout and I shouldn’t have.

“I rang Ita for Christmas; we talk, we all get along. I did the wrong thing, it was totally my fault, I am sorry it happened,” she said.

Former executive producer for the Channel 10 morning breakfast show Rob McKnight opened up about the incident on his podcast, TV Blackbox, where he described Buttrose as a “victim".

“There is something about all this that has really upset me,” he said in August last year, according to TV Tonight.

“I know the Brussels sprouts incident is a joke to everyone.

“Ita Buttrose was assaulted at that shoot. It wasn’t a Christmas party, it was a shoot, we were in a professional situation recording a Christmas video clip.

“Ita is horrified by this. She is embarrassed by it. She is a victim here and she has become the butt of jokes.”

Madonna slams Whitney Houston in never-before-seen letter

A never-before-seen letter of Madonna criticising Whitney Houston and Sharon Stone is up for auction.

The singer allegedly penned the letter to actor John Enos in the early 1990s, describing both Houston and Stone as “horribly mediocre”.

Madonna begins the letter by explaining that she’s been in a “foul mood lately” and is “so uncomfortable in my own skin right now”.

The star then goes on, venting: “I have made so many people angry that I’m being punished and basically made to be quiet and sit in a corner, whole other less interesting and exciting people are reaping the benefits of the roads I’ve paved.

“It’s so unequivocally frustrating to read that Whitney Houston has the music career I wish I had and Sharon Stone has the film career I’ll never have. Not because I want to be these women because I’d rather die, but they’re so horribly mediocre and they’re always being held up as paragons of virtue and some sort of measuring stick to humiliate me.”

She continued: “Everything I do is so original and unique and I put so much of myself into it like my book and record and it’s only brought me heartache and pain”.

We assume she’s referred to her controversial 1992 Sex photo book and accompanying Erotica album. Madonna faced a wave of backlash after the sexually explicit works were released.

“I don’t think I can play the game to be accepted,” she wrote, “I’m too intelligent, I have too much pride”.

Madonna suggested to Enos that she was “born in the wrong place and time and probably the wrong sex” before ending the letter pessimistically, writing, “I feel like I have no career, no family, nothing permanent or tangible.”

“My outlook on life is black black black that’s why I’m no good for you or anyone else right now. I have to regain my sense of power and my joy for living.”

According to the auction site, the letter comes from Darlene Lutz who is described as “a long-time personal friend of Madonna’s from her innermost circle”.

The two-page letter is expected to fetch between $US3000-$5000 when it goes to auction.
