Princess Mary’s adorable 50th birthday wish fulfilled

Princess Mary has finally received her 50th birthday present - months after announcing that the Australian animal exhibition at Copenhagen Zoo would be expanding.

The Princess announced on February 5 that "Mary's Australian Garden" at the zoo would be introducing several more Aussie animals for visitors to enjoy.

Among the Aussie animals already calling the Princess’ Garden home are kangaroos and Tasmanian Devils.

The new facility is home to the cockatoo, the rock kangaroo, the emu and the ant hedgehog, and the bear-like wombat.

The new additions include koalas, echidnas, yellow-footed rock wallabies, wombats and emus.

But the most special animal to arrive at Mary’s Australian Garden is the kookaburra, described as the "Australian laughing bird" by the zoo.

"We are of course happy and proud to be able to accommodate that," Copenhagen Zoo director Jørgen Nielsen said.

"In the Australian Garden, we can draw guests even closer to the animals and the zookeepers' daily work, and the hope is that our commitment and efforts to look after the world's animals rub off on both children and adults.”

Back in 2006, Princess Mary was gifted four Tasmanian Devils for the baptism of her son Prince Christian.

Copenhagen Zoo was the first place outside of Australia to keep the animals and then went on to successfully breed a pup in 2013.

Images: Getty

Cameron Diaz's star-studded 50th birthday party

Cameron Diaz has celebrated her 50th birthday surrounded by friends and family.

The beloved Hollywood actress’ 50th birthday milestone was a star-studded affair featuring husband Benji Madden and his twin brother Joel, sister-in-law Nicole Richie, Adele, Zoe Saldaña, her The Other Woman costar Leslie Mann and Mann's husband Judd Apatow.

A source told People that Cameron “celebrated for hours” with her family and friends.

"Cameron was wonderful. She had the best time celebrating her birthday," the source said.

"She was laughing and very much enjoying herself. She kept hugging Benji and her friends.

Another insider told the publication that the actress loves spending time with her family and is excited to get back into acting.

"She really loves her life so much. She loves being married and she loves being a mom," the source said.

"She enjoys being an entrepreneur and is also excited to start filming again. Cameron's daily motto is basically, 'Life is good!'”

The Charlie’s Angels star will star alongside Jamie Foxx in a Netflix movie called Back in Action.

Foxx announced the exciting news on Twitter in the form of a three-way phone call between himself, Diaz and NFL player Tom Brady.

Brady, who earlier in the year announced his retirement from the game but retracted it a few weeks later, was advising an “anxious” Diaz on how to come back into the spotlight.

Foxx and Diaz have a quick chat where he is asking how she’s feeling, trying to calm her nerves before surprising her with Brady on the other line.

There is not much yet known about the movie, but it is expected that comedian and fellow actor Seth Rogan will be directing it.

This also won’t be the first time Diaz and Foxx appeared alongside each other with the pair starring in Annie (2014) and Any Given Sunday (1999).

Diaz took a break from acting in 2014, a year before marrying rocker Benji Madden of Good Charlotte.

The couple have one child together, Raddix Madden who was born in December 2019.

After becoming a mother, Diaz did a small number of interviews speaking about whether or not she could get back into acting.

“Will I ever make a movie again? I’m not looking to, but will I? I don’t know. I have no idea,” Diaz previously said.

“Maybe, never say never, but I couldn’t imagine being a mum now where I’m at as a mother with my child at her first year to have to be on a movie set that takes 14 hours, 16 hours of my day away from my child.”

Image: Instagram

“I am one of the group”: Francis Coppola reflects as ‘The Godfather’ turns 50

American writer and director Francis Ford Coppola has made dozens of films and gone on to win five Academy Awards and six Golden Globes, but The Godfather may just be his crowning achievement.

With the first film in the trilogy celebrating its 50th anniversary, the acclaimed director shared the dramatic effects its success had on his life in an exclusive interview with Empire magazine.

“Well, it’s odd, of course. To think that 50 years has gone by since the adventure of The Godfather, and when that changed my life so dramatically,” he told the publication.

“Because now the Coppola family is considered synonymous with [the film by] many people, [but] when I came to LA, to UCLA Film School, I just dreamed to get a peek inside a studio.

“Movies were an exotic fairyland.”

While making the film and in the leadup to its initial release, Coppola was under financial pressure to support his wife and kids. But, its debut in 1972 - prompting lengthy queues just to buy tickets - saw Coppola’s fortunes change drastically.

“I went from having zero money at all and a family to support, to having several million dollars, which was astonishing,” he recalled.

“No one in my family had that kind of money. I went from being unknown and poor with a lot of family responsibilities - I was married young and I loved my kids and my family - to having some money and acclaim. I was famous, everyone knew about The Godfather and everyone knew about me.”

Though The Godfather certainly provided Coppola with fame and wealth, the 82-year-old says it gave him something else he had always wanted: a sense of belonging.

“The way I look at it, I always wanted to be one of the group,” he said.

“As first, I was an outsider, and I wasn’t included in the group because I was a new kid, or I was poor. Then I became famous, and a success, so I still wasn’t one of the group.

“In my heart, all I ever really wanted was to be considered one of the group, which I am now because when they talk about all the big directors of the ‘70s, they say George Lucas and Francis Coppola and Marty Scorsese and Steven Spielberg and Brian De Palma and Paul Schrader.

“So I have what I want - I am one of the group.”

Trailer for the 50th anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece ‘The Godfather’, which will be released in select theatres on February 25 pic.twitter.com/7vgsBADsF1
— Lost In Film (@LostInFilm) January 13, 2022

To celebrate the film’s milestone, Paramount Pictures and Coppola’s production company American Zoetrope have restored the trilogy - which will be released in 4K Ultra HD for the first time in March this year.

“We felt privileged to restore these films and a little in awe every day we worked on them,” said Andrea Kalas, the senior vice president of Paramount Archives.

“We were able to witness first-hand how the brilliant cinematography, score, production design, costume design, editing, performances, and, of course, screenwriting and direction became famously more than the sum of their parts.

“It was our commitment to honour all of the filmmakers’ exceptional work.”

The Godfather 50th Anniversary will be released in select cinemas from February 25, 2022.

Image: Vivien Killilea (Getty Images) / Silver Screen Collection (Getty Images)

Hugh Jackman shares very candid 50th birthday photo

Princess Mary’s romantic speech to her husband on his 50th birthday

Princess Mary has given a heartfelt speech dedicated to her husband at Crown Prince Frederik's 50th birthday bash at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen on Saturday.

The Aussie-born princess, who is notoriously private about her family life, spoke in both Danish and English as she celebrated her husband’s milestone, and revealed romantic details about how they fell in love and overcame their “unsure steps” during the early days of courtship.

“I am so happy you swept me off my feet,” she said in front of the crowded room.

“And we dared to fall for each other not for a moment, but for life. And life with you is never boring.”

Mary told her husband: "Your impact on people is unique, and I really don’t think you realise you have that gift. You can talk to everyone and you believe that we all can contribute, that we can always learn from each other."

It wasn’t all romance though as Mary also gave an insight into her husband's incredible sense of humour.

"You are a positive person, and easily moved to laughter. And you are not stingy with your laughter…or your jokes for that matter. And often the two come together, you always laugh (a lot) at your own jokes," she teased. "And I have simply lost count of the amount of times that you have told the same joke over and over again, it is as if you are trying to continuously perfect how they are delivered."

Mary continued to reveal that whenever they go out for dinner, when the waiter comes over to ask if they are finished their meal "you can be dead certain that you will answer, 'No, no I'm Danish'. Every time, and laugh every time."

The mum to Prince Christian, 12, Princess Isabella, 10, and seven-year-old twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, also paid tribute to the prince’s incredible devotion as a dad.

“They describe you as sweet, fun, wonderful, wise, brave, helpful, cool and handsome,” Mary said.

“You’re their everything. They know that you believe in them even when they don’t believe in themselves.”

Princess Mary also paid respects to Frederik’s late father, Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark, who passed away in February.

“And on the rare occasion you get cross, you quickly put it behind you, just as your father did,” Mary revealed.

“You allow yourself to be carried away by our children. You easily find your inner child and your children love it when that side of your takes over through imagination, play, and games.”

See more photos from Prince Frederik’s 50th birthday celebrations in the gallery above.
