Inside Shane Warne's new $5.5 million Melbourne home

Shane Warne has purchased a new $5.5 million Brighton property, just around the corner from the property he recently sold for $20 million.

The former international cricketer paid $5.5 million for his new Melbourne home in Newbay Crescent, which was previously owned by AFL star Matthew Lloyd for almost 10 years.

In 2015, Lloyd sold the five-bedroom home to private investigator Anthony Thompson for $4.2 million.

JP Dixon director Jonathan Dixon said his agency closed the deal with Warne in one week after the house spent 51 days on the market through another agency late last year.

“Shane is in and out of the country so much, the other one was too big,” he said.

“It’s got underground garaging, it’s in a top spot and its pool (was another drawcard). It’s everything he needs but on a smaller scale, which is ideal for him, so he can shut it up and walk away, travel.

“The other one was pretty big and a lot of work.”

Warne’s new property features a pool, covered deck, rear balcony, three bathrooms, a basement home theatre, bar and parking for four cars.

There is also a grand staircase between two living spaces that leads to the upper level, which has a study.

Warne has sold at least five Brighton homes in the past two decades.

Recently, Warne sold a 3014-square metre estate in the neighbourhood for about $20 million, 18 months after purchasing it for $14.25 million.

His former French-inspired mansion on Kinane Street sold for $5.35 million in September 2016.
