Meet the world’s oldest newlyweds – he’s 102 and she’s 91!
George Kirby and Doreen Luckie have been together for over 27 years and have finally decided to tie the knot. But at 102 and 91 respectively – and a combined age of 195 – their upcoming nuptials will break the Guinness World Record of 188, officially becoming the oldest couple ever to get hitched.
The UK lovebirds met in 1988 and fell in love immediately. Between them they have seven children, 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom have been pressuring Kirby to pop the question all these years. So finally, this past Valentine's Day over dinner, Kirby finally decided that the moment was right.
“I didn't get down on one knee because I don't think I'd have been able to get back up,” he joked.
They upcoming nuptials will be on June 13, Kirby’s birthday.
“I won't be much of a blushing bride, but I'm getting a bit giddy thinking about it,” said Luckie.
Kirby’s son Neil, 63, who will be best man, said: “We've adopted Doreen as our mum and we're delighted that she's going to become a Kirby. We're thrilled that they are going to get married in front of all their proud friends and family.”
Instead of wedding presents, the couple are raising money for their chosen charities - the Royal Air Forces Association and the Women's Royal Naval Service
