Video of wild animals seeing their reflection for the first time is amazing

If you’ve ever caught your pet when they encounter a mirror, you know it can be a strange thing to witness. With no way to explain what’s going on, you just have to watch them try to figure things out for themselves. And that’s exactly what French photographer Xavier Hubert Brierre did when he travelled to Gabon, Africa, and set up mirrors in several locations throughout a jungle. A camera was set up to catch the animals’ reactions. Brierre posted numerous videos of the interactions on his YouTube account, but you can see a collection of them together in the video above.

Some animals reacted with aggression, but it looks like none were injured. We particularly love the chimps, which quickly became addicted to the magic of the mirror, and returned to the sight long after the mirror was taken away.
