Kerri-Anne Kennerley’s heartbreaking news: "My beautiful husband John passed away"

Kerri-Anne Kennerley’s husband, John Kennerley, has passed away at the age of 78.

Kerri-Anne shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram this morning, sharing a few words about the life that they had built together.

The caption reads:

"It's with a heavy heart and awful sadness that I let you know that my beautiful husband John passed away last night," she wrote.

"As you all know, John has faced some tremendous challenges over the past few years and with each he has been extraordinarily brave and determined to overcome those hurdles and live a normal life.

"I want to thank everyone at St Vincent's Hospital for the beautiful care they have provided to John in his last days.

"John passed away peacefully with his son Simon and me by his side.

"John, you were the love of my life."

Fans have rallied around Kerri-Anne, sending the television presenter their deepest condolences.

“So sad to hear of John’s passing. You and John are a real love story” wrote one fan.

Another said, “Your marriage is an inspiration. Love and sympathy to you both”.

The challenges that Kerri-Anne refers to in her Instagram post include an accident that left John wheelchair bound in 2016 after he slipped off a balcony verandah in Coffs Harbour and was left almost completely paralysed and wheelchair bound.

However, the pair worked through it and Kerri-Anne became John’s full-time carer.

In the years after John’s fall, Kerri-Anne revealed that it wasn’t easy. She told 9Honey Celebrity:

"He's working really hard at rehab, at Prince of Wales hospital,"

"[The progress] is very slow. But he's with us and I'm grateful for that. And the people at Prince of Wales are just fabulous."

Kerri-Anne has received hundreds of messages and condolences from fans on her Instagram page, as well as comfort from friends and family.

Grant Denyer’s wife Chezzi Denyer commented, saying:

"Oh gosh this his heartbreaking news KA-K. Sending you so much love right now. We adore you! The Denyers xoxox."
