”10 centimetres long”: Aussie man’s frightening encounter with spider triggers police response
Perth father, Rhys Howard, was left shaking with fear when he answered the door to police on Wednesday this week.
The event had caused such a commotion in the home, a worried call to triple-0 was made by someone.
Neighbours reportedly heard a child screaming and a man shouting death threats.
But Rhys said he had just killed a large, black spider “about 10 centimetres long".
“I came out of the bedroom and I saw a spider on the floor … It was about 10 centimetres long; I freaked out as I normally do,” he said to the ABC.
The Australian man says he’d grabbed the closest item he saw and attempted killing the spider by whacking it a few times.
“I was screaming ‘why don’t you die?’ at the top of my lungs and repeatedly … because I’m terrified of them,” he said.
His baby became fearful and could not stop hysterically crying when she heard the yelling in their home, he explained.
Two police officers arrived briefly after the scary event that unfolded in the home and were met with the laughing partner of the hysterical man, Kara Loran.
“This is pretty normal for him – he is an over-the-top person,” she told ABC.
However, the Aussie dad admits he might have been a little dramatic.
“I think a lot of people can relate to having a fear of spiders. They’re a nasty creature.”
