Australian Idol star’s tragic death at 36

Australian Idol star’s tragic death at 36

Former Australian Idol contestant Kate Cook, 36, was found dead in bushland near her home in Lowood, Queensland.

Friends were reportedly worried about her mental state and reported Cook missing to police at 7:20pm, reports.

The search for Cook continued at 6 am this morning, where her body was found in bushland off Lowood Hills Road.

At this time, police are not treating her death as suspicious.

Cook rose to fame on Australian Idol when she appeared on the show in 2009 and shared her story with the panel of judges.

“Two days before I turned 17 my younger sister and I found her. She committed suicide, so it was pretty tough,” Cook told the judges before singing.

“I’ve had a long road to sort of find myself after being lost for a long time. So, I sort found myself through strength and music.”

Cook also shared that her mum had a big influence on her music-wise. She told the Queensland Times:

“Mum always played the guitar and when I was 10 years old she taught me a couple of chords.

“After that I was always taking the guitar out to the paddock to play, which later developed into a passion for songwriting.”

Country music star Casey Barnes, who also appeared on Australian Idolin 2009 with Kate, paid his respects on Twitter.

"This is the Kate Cook I remember and loved.

“We were only just talking about organising a ten year Idol reunion this year... you were such a beautiful person inside & out.

“Absolutely gutted but hope you're up there with your Mum now," Barnes tweeted.
