Dame Judi Dench’s 10 best movie performances

While she is renowned for her roles on the big screen, Dame Judi Dench first forged her career in the theatre.

Her mother was a wardrobe mistress and her father was a theatre doctor, which gave her great exposure to the art of acting at a young age.

Her first professional stage role was as Ophelia for the Old Vic Company and since then, she has created industry acclaimed work in theatre, television and movies.

She has been honoured by the Crown three times – receiving an OBE in 1970, a DBE in 1988 and a CH in 2005.

Dench has also received seven Oscar nominations, winning Best Supporting Actress in 1990 for her role in Shakespeare in Love.
