“You can’t park there”: Elderly driver mistakes brake pads for accelerator

An elderly woman who mistook her accelerator for her brake pads when entering a shopping centre car park saw her vehicle end up on top of another.

Shocking images shared to social media show a Honda Civic sitting on top of an expensive Mercedes in Westfield Hurstville, Sydney.

It is understood that the driver was a 73-year-old woman who confused her brake and accelerator pedals.

She drove through the boom gates before her car somehow drove onto the Mercedes about 9.45am on October 13.

A 50-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries following the terrifying incident.

CCTV is yet to be released to show exactly how the incident occurred, with many questioning how the car wound up on top of the other.

“I honestly don’t understand the physics behind this,” someone commented.

“Imagine coming back from your shopping to see a car parked on top of yours,” another wrote.

“You can’t park there,” someone else joked.
