Woman charged: Cruise ship returns to Sydney after alcohol-fuelled brawl

A P&O cruise ship has been forced to return to Sydney to remove unruly passengers, after an alcohol-fuelled brawl resulted in a glassing attack.

Fairfax Media reports the incident, which took place just before 1am on Sunday, involved several men arguing in the toilet queue before violence broke out.

The incident resulted in a 37-year-old woman, believed to be the partner of one of the men involved in the brawl, striking a 21-year-old man on the head with an empty wine bottle.

Security personnel on the ship promptly separated and detained those involved. The ship was turned around and they were removed at Bradleys Head in Sydney Harbour.

A P&O spokesman said the incident was dealt with appropriately.

"This is in line with our strict policy of zero tolerance of excessive behaviour that affects the safety, comfort and enjoyment of other guests,” he told Fairfax Media.

"The group removed today will no longer be welcome to travel with P&O Cruises or any of its associated brands."

Reports suggest some of the men on the ship were using the cruise as a bucks celebration.

“One hell of a bucks' party... just boys being boys," one of the men told Nine News.

The men were released without charge, while the woman was taken to Newton Police Station, and will face charges at the Downing Centre Local Court on March 9.

What are your thoughts? Do you think the incident was dealt with appropriately? Should more safeguards be put in place to prevent excessive drinking at sea?
