Naked man forces flight to turn around

A plane has been forced to turn around after a passenger stripped off his clothing and locked himself in the toilet mid-flight.

Flight attendants on the Alaska Airlines flight discovered the passenger naked after he refused to follow instructions from the crew.

The flight, which had 178 passengers onboard, was travelling to Seattle but was forced to turn back because of the unruly man.

Airport Police Sergeant Darcey Perry told KTVA, “There was a subject on the aircraft that had barricaded or locked himself in the bathroom, the lavatory.

"Flight attendants did find that the subject was naked.”

An Alaska Airline spokesman said the flight was turned around “due to a passenger not following flight attendants’ instructions".

Tim Thompson said in an email, "While no emergency was declared, pilots made the decision to return to Anchorage.

“Flight 146 arrived at Anchorage International around 2.45am and was met by law enforcement officers at the gate. The passenger was escorted off the flight by officers.”

KTVA revealed that the man was questioned by the FBI but no charges were filed against him.

A passenger named Kate Danyluk explained that the man “had taken off his clothes and he just wasn’t in his right mind".

“The police came on and took him out the back door."

Danyluk added, “I’d rather go back to Anchorage than have something happen.”

A US attorney spokeswoman said the man was taken to hospital for a “mental health evaluation”.
