Couple accused of faking car crash in Sydney for the insurance payouts

A man and a woman have been accused of staging a car crash in northwest Sydney in an attempt to claim nearly $50,000 in insurance payouts.

The 65-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were arrested in Ryde and Guildford on December 3rd.

The man and woman have both been charged with attempting to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

Police will allege in court that the pair staged a crash in Ryde in May 2018 and that fraudulent compulsory third party (CTP) insurance claims to the value of $45,000 were lodged.

The woman is due to face the Burwood Local Court on Monday while the man is expected to front the Parramatta Local Court on January 14th.

It’s not the first case of people fraudulently claiming CTP insurance claims, as 27 people so far have been arrested by police.

Combined, the claims add up to a shocking $14 million.
