Tips for travelling on a budget

1. Plan, plan, plan

Get your affairs in order! Travelling spontaneously is wonderful but it's not a smart move if you’re on a budget. Make sure you know exactly how long you’ll be staying at each location, and learn the best route of transport. Then, you can calculate your travel expenses before you even leave.

2. Travel out of peak season

This will always be the cheaper option. Avoid travelling during school holidays because the industry tends to increase prices. Instead, research the best time to visit your location and travel before or after those dates.

3. Book flights in advance

Try to book your flights well in advance. Booking flights closer to your day of departure will always come at a higher cost.

4. Be food savvy

Rather than going to a cafe or restaurant where the prices may be high, wander around and find low-cost eateries. Do your research to learn what is and isn’t considered costly at your intended destination.

5. Pack sensibly

Make sure you’re packing absolutely everything you need. You don’t want to be caught out, especially in a foreign country. It's also a good idea to research the weather conditions for every intended stop.
