How to see Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla in Queensland

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla have now arrived in Queensland to open the 2018 Commonwealth Games and for a brief royal tour.

The Prince of Wales and his wife have a busy itinerary prepared, visiting Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Bundaberg and Cairns.

If you are hoping to catch a glimpse of the heir to the throne and you live in Brisbane, head to Old Government House at QUT today. The royal couple will be there from 12:50 pm and they will be welcomed with a 21 gun salute.

From 1:15pm, they will be at the City Botanic Gardens conducting a public walk.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said to the city of Brisbane, “If you work in the city, I can't think of a better way to spend a lunch break than strolling down to our beautiful City Botanic Gardens and meeting their Royal Highnesses.

"This royal visit also coincides with the school holidays in Queensland and is a great opportunity for children to take part in what promises to be an unforgettable, historic day for our state."

The main gate on Albert Street has been recommended as the best point of entry for those planning to visit the Botanic Gardens.

There will be restricted pedestrian and vehicle access during the day around Alice Street, Parliament House and QUT.

The government has also banned selfie sticks and discouraged visitors from bringing umbrellas, chairs and picnic blankets.

Charles and Camilla will also visit Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, the home for Australia’s first television show Juiced TV made by patients in the hospital.

Tonight, Charles will represent his mother, The Queen, at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

On Thursday, the pair will attend Commonwealth Games events.

It has been confirmed Charles will also tour the Athletes’ Village and present medals at the swimming finals.

Charles and Camilla will visit Bundaberg and attend an event open to the public at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery.

The Big Bundy BBQ will run from 10am-2 pm with official proceedings from 12:30-1pm.

Then the royals will visit Cairns to present the company of HMAS Leeuwin with the Gloucester Cup.

They will also visit the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree forest and celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The Queensland portion of the trip will conclude with the royals watching the Commonwealth Games women’s basketball competition.
