10 things you must do for a stress-free holiday

We spend so much time stressing and agonising over flights, accommodation, meals and activities that planning a trip can at times feel like no holiday!

The good news is there’s plenty you can do to ensure your holiday goes off without a hitch. We’ve put together 10 things you must do to ensure a stress-free holiday. Take these measures and you’ll be having a holiday to remember in no time at all.

1. Organise travel insurance

Even the best laid travel plans can be upset by something that is out of your hands. Making sure you have your travel insurance booked ahead of time is the best way to protect yourself from missed flights, damaged luggage and sickness on the road.

2. Sort out your money before you leave

Figure out how you’re going to access money while away well in advice. Travel debit cards ensure you will be able to easily access and manage funds while on holidays in a manner that’s secure and convenient.

3. Pack essentials in your carry-on luggage

Nothing upsets your trip plans but having important documents/medication/items in your checked luggage. By having your essentials packed in your carry-on luggage you can be sure that you can access everything you need to at all times.

4. Know about your accommodation

Having your accommodation’s contact information handy can be a valuable source of directions and enable you to give them a head’s up if you miss a connection.

5. Hang onto your boarding pass

While you’re probably accustomed to ditching your boarding pass as soon as you get off the plane, it’s generally not the worst idea to hang onto it as it can provide valuable assistance in various disputes when you have to provide proof of flight.

6. Give your bags secure, easily recognisable markings

There’s nothing like a baggage carousel to make your bags blend into the crowd. Where possible, try to give you bags secure, easily recognisable markings to ensure that you will be able to pick it up from that dreaded conveyor belt as soon as possible.

7. Read the fine print

Make sure you know the terms and conditions related to all your flights and bookings before you go, otherwise you might find out the hard way when you rock up.

8. Pack as lightly as possible

No matter what sort of trip you’re taking, less baggage means an easier the trip, so try to pack as lightly as possible and take measures to maximise your storage space.

9. Do your research

A little bit of research before you go can save some serious headaches by knowing the right area of the city to stay, what to do and the places you should avoid as a tourist.

10. Learn a bit of the language

While you don’t have to become fluent by any means, knowing a couple of words of the local language here and there can be an invaluable communication tool.
