Popular booking company leaks customer passport details

Popular travel booking company Flight Centre has accidentally released the passport details of customers, attributing the incident to “human error”.

In a letter to customers, Flight Centre said, “passport details” of “some retail customers of our Australian business were mistakenly made accessible” to a group developing business products for the travel agency.

Flight Centre did not specify what “passport details” included.

“This incident did not involve an unauthorised access to our systems and the issue was identified relatively quickly, which allowed us to remove much of the relevant information as was possible,” the letter said.

Flight Centre spokesman told Fairfax Media, the customers affected represented "a really small percentage of our leisure customer base".

A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade added, "A passport number and personal information contained on the photo page of a passport would be insufficient to obtain another passport in this identity. Passport holders who feel unsure about the security of their current passport can renew at any time."
