This heartwarming short film teaches you how to pack a suitcase

Need a tip or two on how to pack for your next trip? This short flick might just do the trick – and leave you reaching for the tissues in the process.

The award-winning film Negative Space is a stop-motion short based on a 150-word poem by Ron Koertge. Directed and written by Max Porter and Ru Kuwahata, the film tells a story of a father-and-son relationship, complemented with packing tips such as:

“Lay out everything. Put back half. Roll things that roll. Wrinkle-prone things on top of cotton things. Then pants, waist-to-hem. Nooks and crannies for socks. Belts around the sides like snakes. Plastic over that. Add shoes. Wear heavy stuff on the plane.”

The five-minute video was nominated for the Best Animated Short Film at the 90th Academy Awards, and won more than 100 prizes – so you’re in for a good viewing session.
