The foods the royal family cannot eat

Although some may think that the royal family are free to do whatever they want, there are particular responsibilities and protocols that come with their title.

It turns out, one protocol in place for the royal family dictates what foods they can and can't eat when travelling abroad.

Various sources have previously revealed that the royal family are not allowed to eat shellfish when they eat out. This is because of the risk of food poisoning.

It is also believed that when the royals are travelling, they are forbidden from eating meat that is cooked rare, or drinking tap water.

The rules are in place to protect the royals from catching any bug which may interrupt their busy schedules.

The Telegraph reporter Gordon Rayner, who has attended 20 royal tours, explained that the royals also take precautions with their alcohol while they are overseas.

“Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall sometimes take their own alcohol so there’s no danger of their drinks being spiked,” he said.

“Their police bodyguard will discreetly carry a bag of their drinks — gin and tonic for him and red wine for her.”

The royals are encouraged to immerse themselves in the culture of the country they are visiting, however, this can mean that they must decline sampling some local cuisines.

Apparently, The Queen observes this tradition while the younger generations have been known to consume the forbidden foods.
