Stunning coloured photographs of Paris in 1923

The 1920’s marked a new era in Paris. It was a time of great hope and optimism. A time before the roads were overrun with cars, and dainty horse and carriages peppered the streets. Men wore top hats and children played by the Seine in pinafores and high socks. And, thanks to French photographer Jules Gerwais-Courtellemont, it’s a time that’s now eternalised in stunning colour photographs.

Gerwais-Courtellemont captured these post-war photographs of Paris in 1923. One of the first masters of Autochrome, an early colour photography process, his photos provide a beautiful yet eery snapshot of the streets and landmarks in Paris.

Travel back in time with his stunning photo-journal of the City of Light.
