Whoops: Fodor’s 2019 guide to Melbourne debuts with a photo of the Gold Coast on the cover

The cover of travel publisher Fodor’s yet-to-be-released guide to 25 Best Melbourne featured an image of the Gold Coast in an embarrassing blunder.

"Don't just see the sights. See the best." urges the book's tagline, which displays the wrong photo of a different city proudly.

The photo used is admittedly a gloomy photo used of the Gold Coast, but the thin strip of high rises undoubtedly belongs to the Sunshine State.

The New York Times notes that Fodor's guides are "aimed at a fairly discerning traveller with an appetite for background and the occasional surprise". However, this seems a bit remiss due to the use of the wrong photo.

The mistake has now been fixed, which can be seen below.

Fodor’s aren’t the only one who have made mistakes when it comes to images, as Lonely Planet’s massive guide to Western Europe was accidentally named “Westen Europe”. The mistake has now become a collectable item amongst Lonely Planet readers.
