5 sweet spots to spend Mother’s Day in Australia

It’s the day for spoiling your mum or being spoilt by your own kids. These are the best spots for a Mother’s Day treat.

1. Hydro Majestic Blue Mountains, New South Wales

This grand old hotel has been completely restored to its former glory and makes for a gorgeous day trip from Sydney or a little weekend getaway. The Hydro Majestic first opened in 1904 in the Blue Mountain’s town of Medlow Bath and is famous for its domed roof and stunning views over the surrounding valleys. Afternoon high tea in the Wintergarden dining room is the perfect Mother’s Day treat, with scones, finger sandwiches, pastries and tea (or even a glass of champagne).

2. Hunter Valley, New South Wales

Who doesn’t love a little wine tasting? The Hunter Valley is the oldest wine region in the country and home to some of our most famous vineyards. It’s ideal for a day or two of pottering between cellar doors, sampling the best vintages and stocking the boot with a few for home. For something really special, try a hot air balloon flight over the valley at sunrise – it will take your breath away.

3. Daylesford, Victoria

Australia’s original spa town is about 90 minutes from Melbourne and people have been coming here for more than 100 years to soak in the mineral rich waters. Check into one of the town’s luxury boutique hotels and hit the spa, either for a restorative bath or a full on treatment. The region is also famous for its gourmet food and wine, excellent hiking trails and quaint villages, if you need a break from all the relaxing.

4. Crown Towers, Perth

Australia’s newest five star hotel might also be it’s best, and there’s something really indulgent about checking in to a swish hotel in the city for a few days of fun. If you can drag yourself away from the lagoon pools with private cabanas, multiple bars and restaurants, and the plush spa, Perth has plenty to offer. The weather is still lovely in May, so you can hit the beaches, walk through the sprawling Kings Park or spend the day on Rottnest Island. And did we mention all the nearby wineries?

5. Scenic Rim, Queensland

If you want to use Mother’s Day as a chance to get active in the great outdoors, Queensland’s Scenic Rim (just inland from the Gold Coast) is the place to be. The whole region is dotted with walking and hiking trails, suitable for all levels of fitness, spread through six national parks. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, the area is also a foodie hotspot so you can tuck into a hearty meal at a classic country pub or go gourmet at a fine dining restaurant.

Have you been to any of these locations?
