4 holiday destinations for you and your dog

Looking for the perfect break for you and your four footed friend? Dip your paws in these top destinations.

1. Sydney, NSW

For a luxury city break with your pooch, it’s hard to go past Sydney. A surprising number of high end hotels welcome furry guests, including The Langham in the historic Rocks district. The hotel will provide you with a plush pet bed, toys and a dedicated room service menu (featuring things like beef steak with chunky vegetables and grilled salmon with green beans and potato) to be eaten from stylish bowls in the hotel’s signature pale pink. Head down to the new Barangaroo Reserve on the edge of the harbour to stretch your legs.

2. Sunshine Coast, Qld

Dogs love a good romp on the beach too, so head to Queensland’s stunning Sunshine Coast for a holiday the whole family will love. The areas around Sunshine Beach, Coolum and Noosa are particularly good, with lots of dog-friendly beaches that are nice for the humans to swim at too. There are also plenty of cafes that will welcome your pup (look out for the telltale water bowl out the front) and may even have a jar of tasty treats behind the counter.

3. Busselton, WA

Another lovely beach break for man’s best friend, this time on the southwest tip of Western Australia. There are plenty of beaches to choose from as well as parks and coastal walks if you’re looking for a little more adventure. Accommodation options are also plentiful and there are some particularly good holiday parks. Our pick is the Four Seasons – it offers campsites, caravan spots and dog friendly cottages, plus there’s an on-site DIY doggy spa. Fido will thank you.

4. Shoalhaven, NSW

This delightful region on the New South Wales South Coast is one of the best doggy holiday spots in the country. You and your pup can explore beaches, rivers, parks and trails, with plenty of off leash areas as well. There are lots of great camping or caravan options though if you want something a little more luxurious, many holiday houses in this region are happy to take pets. In fact, Shoalhaven is so pet-friendly that you can even take them into many shops and markets – just make sure to check the signs first.
