What you should never post online before your cruise

In the age of oversharing, it is important to be cautious with the information you post online. Here are some of the things you need to stop yourself from sharing online before and during a cruise.

1. Your boarding pass

If you are catching a flight prior to your cruise, make sure you never upload a photo of your boarding pass. The information on your boarding pass (airline confirmation number, name, destination) is enough for anyone else to have full access to your booking. People who have uploaded photos of their boarding pass on social media have learnt the hard lesson that you are giving people enough information to not only play petty tricks such as switch seat assignments, but they can also cancel your booking and track your entire travel itinerary.

2. Your cruise confirmation number

Similarly, never share any information about your cruise documents online or take any photos where they may be visible. This information makes it too easy for hackers or even social media followers, to access your bookings. Even be cautious with the amount of information you give away over posts. It is easy to piece personal details together with information about a cruise that is already online.

3. Your passport

It is very popular for people to upload photos of their passport online as they take off on their travel adventures. This should be avoided at all costs, so it is important to be aware of any people nearby who may be filming while you have your passport out.

4. When you will be away

Until you return from your cruise, do not advertise when you will be gone. There is nothing more pleasurable for a robber to hear than when a home will be unoccupied for a week. Wait until you return from your cruise to share your incredible adventures and let your online friends know you were away. It is best to inform all your close friends and family when you will be travelling in person rather than over the internet.

If you see any of your friends making these mistakes, make sure you give them these tips. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Do you know anyone who shares too much information about their travels while they are away? Tell us about it in the comments below.
