Another cruise line has built a mega-ship

Earlier this week we told you about Royal Caribbean’s plans to build the 230,000-tonne megaship, Symphony of the Seas, and it appears it’s not the only cruise line starting to ascribe to the motto, “bigger is better.”

Princess Cruises is getting in on the act as well, with the brand-new 143,000-tonne Majestic Princess expected to set sail to Australian waters soon.

The numbers of this vessel are staggering. The Majestic Princess is 330 metres long (roughly the length of six Olympic swimming pools) and 68.3 metres high, with 19 decks and the ability to carry 3,560 guests in consummate style.

The Majestic Princess has just hit the water after construction in Monfalcone, Italy, and reportedly cost $AU 868 million to construct. That’s not far off the $AU 1.3 billion spent ot make the Ovation of the Seas, which visited Sydney earlier this year.

Majestic Princess will debut in Australia in September next year, and home port in Sydney over the 2018-19 summer season.
