Mysterious death leaves cruise shrouded in tragedy

A mysterious death has left a cruise shrouded in tragedy, with holidaymakers and authorities onboard the ship struggling to understand exactly what happened.

Conflicting reports have only added to the sense of mystery surrounding the incident on the Emerald Princess, which is beginning to sound like an Agatha Christie novel.

Passengers knew something was amiss when the siren call for security and medical staff sounded on Tuesday night. The ship, which was carrying 3,400 passengers and 1,100 crew, had been docked in the Alaskan capital city of Juneau overnight.

The vessel, a Sydney-based liner operated by Princess Cruises, had deliberately diverted to the city after the woman’s body was discovered with local authorities and the FBI reportedly boarding the ship to investigate the incident.

Reports suggest that before the majority of passengers were eventually let off the ship, but only after a smaller group exited wearing “white and grey hooded sweat shirt”.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the woman who passed away, but they have described the incident as a “suspicious” domestic dispute.
