Cruise ship tragedy as 8-year-old girl dies after falling from balcony
Tragedy has struck a Carnival Cruise ship docked at a port in Miami, with reports confirming an eight-year-old girl has fallen from the vessel’s second story balcony.
Investigators say the girl, whose identity has yet to be released, was rushed to a nearby hospital after the incident, where she was pronounced dead by doctors.
The run of events that led to the girl falling from the ship’s second story atrium at around 8am Saturday morning remain shrouded in mystery with local police announcing they would be opening an official investigation into the tragic incident.
Carnival Cruise Lines spokesperson Jennifer de la Cruz said the ship immediately notified police following the incident and expressed their concern for the family.
“Our most heartfelt care and concern is with the family at this very difficult time,” Cruz added in the statement.
