Cruise line faces fine for all-night party in Ibiza

Royal Caribbean’s cruise liner MS Brilliance of the Seas is set to face a fine for an all-night party during a stopover in Ibiza.

The ship was docked in Marine Botafoch on the Balearic island and town hall officials said they received various calls complaining about the noise.

Police and port authorities were alerted but said they were unable to get the music turned down.

The ship travelled from Barcelona and docked in Ibiza for two days. Local reports noted that the noise continued until 8:30 the next day.

Port authorities have initiated proceedings which are expected to result in a fine for the cruise ship’s agent, with sources warning it would be the “maximum possible under the law” for breaching noise regulations.

MS Brilliance of the Seas holds 2,500 passengers.

The ship sails Western Caribbean itineraries out of Florida during the summer season and then crosses the Atlantic in late April, offering several Mediterranean itineraries out of Barcelona through winter.
