Couples’ guide to cruising: 4 ways to romance on the high seas

Cruising on a budget can come with many perks. However, even if you’re an outgoing person who enjoys making friends on a cruise, there are moments when you want to spend some alone time with your partner.

Although it may not seem like it, even large vessels carrying thousands of passengers and crew members can offer a surprisingly wide array of experiences and opportunities, so you can have an intimate time during your holiday getaway.

Here are a few tips and tricks on how to find private time on a cruise.

1. Stay onboard to avoid crowds

You can opt to stay on the ship when it reaches a port, giving you the opportunity to have the ship to yourself and a few other passengers. Choosing to stay in on a port day means you have more activities, space and alone time with your partner.

2. Arrive early for the shows

The featured shows offered on board each night attract large crowds. However, getting to the theatre or entertainment space earlier than everyone else, allows you to find a seating setup for just the two of you.

3. Use off-peak time to your advantage

The discoes, bars and lounges can be quite packed and busy during scheduled events and the evenings. If you look at your cruise’s daily program, you can find what spaces onboard are not busy during certain times and opt to enjoy some time there for privacy and intimacy.

4. Table for two

Even if you would prefer not to eat at the special eateries that cost to sit in, you can choose your cruise’s flexible “my time” dining program and ask for a table for two when you go to eat.
