7 tricks to make your cruise cabin more comfortable

While no one would bemoan the fact that they’ve found themselves on a luxury cruise, there are many parts of a cruise cabin that can be uncomfortable and irritating.

In the past we’ve had to grit our teeth and bear it, but no longer!

Cruise Critic has put together seven simple (yet highly effective) tricks to make your cruise cabin more comfortable. With a little old-fashioned ingenuity you can easily eliminate a range of major cruise cabin irritations and enjoy an infinitely more comfortable cruise.

1. Create more space to hang clothes

Cruise ship cabins generally are pretty stingy when it comes to hanging space. But, as most cruise cabins are made of metal you can use any surface as hanging space for your jackets, shirts and dresses with a set of magnetic hooks!

2. Create more drawer space

Serial over-packers probably bemoan the fact there’s barely enough drawer space on any given cruise. But there’s an easy fix! Instead of sprawling your clothes all over the cabin, slide a suitcase under the bed (but leave it open) for convenient storage.

3. Air dry swimmers and wet clothing

Generally there’s barely enough space in your cruise cabins to dry your swimmers or wet clothing. One solution is to bring a few deflated balloons. Blow them up and drape wet clothing over it in a corner of your cabin and you’ve got a makeshift drying rack!

4. Create mood lighting

Cruises can often become quite romantic, but the bright light of the cruise cabin (or pitch black darkness when it’s turned off) generally isn’t very conduce to romance. Bring a set of battery operated tea lights and you’ll be able to set the mood.

5. Divide the room for privacy

When travelling with another couple it can be hard to give yourself privacy when sharing the same room. But using the magnetic hooks from earlier and the shower curtain, you can create an effective, makeshift partition to split the room up.

6. Outwit energy saving power stations

These energy saving devices are generally welcome, but can sometimes be annoying when you’re looking to charge key devices when you’ve left your cabin. It’s a bit sneaky, but consider filling the slot with a business card or library card and charge away!

7. Make sure you don’t lose your room key

There’s nothing worse than losing a room key on your cruise, and it’s a constant nightmare for many people on sea. The best solution is to purchase a lanyard before. The fashion conscious can wear it underneath their shirt and know exactly where the key is at all times.

What’s your take on the tips? Do you think you will try any on your next cruise? Do you have a cruise on the cards, and where are you going?
