4 cruise hacks you didn’t know

Get the most out of your cruise by doing these helpful cruise hacks.

1. Bring an over-the-door shoe organiser

But not for your shoes! Choose the multi-pocket plastic variety, hang it over the back of your bathroom door and you’ve got lots of handy storage for all your shower products, lotions, makeup and more. Most cruise bathrooms have small counters with minimal storage space, but this little hack will leave you feeling like you’ve got all the space you need.

2. Ask a crew member about free Wi-Fi in port

Onboard Wi-Fi can be criminally expensive on cruises, so most people take advantage of free hot spots when they in port. Can’t fine one? Ask a crew member before you disembark. They cruise to these ports multiple times in a season and they want to keep in touch with their family too. A friendly crew member should be able to point you in the right direction.

3. Pack a small purse or zip-up bag

Once you’re onboard, you won’t need to carry many of your daily essentials with you (like a full wallet, cash, house keys, diary etc). So you don’t want to be lugging around a huge handbag either. Bring a small purse so you can pop in your room key, license, mobile phone and a lipstick, then leave everything else in your safe.

4. Bring a USB charging cable for your electronics

Power points are at a premium in cruise cabins and a lot of lines won’t let you bring power boards to plug in. But there’s an extra charging point you probably didn’t think about – the smart TV. Most will have a USB port in the back that can be used to charge your phone, tablet or kindle.
