“You’ve got a friend in me”: Hugh Jackman sends heartwarming message to nine-year-old Quaden Bayles

Legendary actor Hugh Jackman has spoken out about bullying after footage of distraught child Quaden Bales went viral.

Quaden was devastated in the video that was put up by his mother after the other children at school were bullying him due to dwarfism. He told his mother in the video that he wanted to kill himself and “stab himself in the heart”.

Jackman said that Quaden will always have a friend in him.

“Quaden, you are stronger than you know, mate,” Hugh said in a video shared with his 14 million Twitter followers.

“And no matter what, you've got a friend in me.”

Jackman also slammed the bullies in the video, saying that it is not okay.

“Bullying is not okay. Period. Life is hard enough,” he said.

“Let's just remember every person in front of us is facing the same kind of battle. So let's just be kind.”

Quaden’s mother Yarraka Bayles shared the video publicly on Facebook in an effort to raise awareness about the consequences of bullying.

“I just picked my son up from school, witnessed a bullying episode, rang the principal and I want people to know this is the effect bullying has. This is what bullying does.

“So can you please educate your children, your families, your friends because all it takes is one more instance... and you wonder why kids are killing themselves.”

After the video went viral, the NRL Indigenous All Stars have reached out to Quaden  and have invited him to lead them out at Saturday night’s match, much to the delight of his family.
