Woolworths' hilarious response to critics of hot cross buns

Woolworths has hit back at online critics who have accused the supermarket of selling hot cross buns too early with some sassy one-liners.

While some customers are delighted Woolies (as well as Coles) has decided to bring out the Easter favourite right after Christmas, many others are baffled (and even irate) by the early release.

But the social media manager Woolworths wasn’t taking the online furore lying down, hitting back on Facebook with some cheeky comments.

“Seriously Christmas is barely over,” one commenter said online, to which Woolies responded: “Christmas was last year, Claudia!!!”

“Way too early. Wait until after Valentine’s Day,” another shopper said, with Woolies hitting back with: “But what will people eat on Valentine's Day?”.

Speaking to News.com.au, Woolworths Bakery Manager, Ben Thompson, said there is a huge demand for the buns early in the year.

“We sold almost ten million hot cross buns in January alone last year and are proud to be able to offer our customers with a range of tasty hot cross bun goodness again to start the new year off right,” he said.
