Why Prince Charles and Prince William made the Queen meet Trump alone

Following President Trump's visit with the Queen at Windsor Castle, many have speculated the noticeable absence of two key people, Prince Charles and Prince William.

According to The Sun, the two royals announced they did not want to get involved in the President's four-day visit.

The result of their alleged decision meant the 92-year-old monarch hosted the US President and his wife Melania for tea by herself.

The Sunday Times reported that both Charles and William were reluctant to meet Trump.

A palace insider told the paper, the father and son "simply refused" to attend the meeting, adding: "This business of Prince Charles and Prince William not being there for the Trump visit was a snub.

"It's a very unusual thing for the Queen to be there on her own. Usually she is accompanied by somebody."

Describing Charles, the royal insider said: "He goes to what he wants to go to, and if he had wanted to be there he could have been."

While the Queen was meeting Trump, Charles attended a meeting for his company AG Carrick at Highgrove while William played polo in a charity match.

Following the reports of Prince Charles and Prince William's snubs, the palace released a statement explaining why the Queen met with Trump by herself.

"In line with standard practice for guests of government visits, the President was received by The Queen as Head of State. The arrangements were mutually agreed between the Palace and the U.K. and U.S. governments," a royal spokesperson told People.

"There was never a suggestion that other members of the family would take part."
