Why Camilla will be missing from Princess Eugenie's wedding

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall is to miss the other royal wedding of the year, Princess Eugenie’s upcoming nuptials to Jack Brooksbank.

She’ll be staying put in the Scottish Highlands where she and Prince Charles are currently based, but it’s because she’s keeping her royal commitments that were scheduled ahead of the announced wedding date, rather than any family discord.

Far from reports that Camilla’s absence is a royal “snub”, People quotes a a royal insider at the Duchess and Prince Charles’ Clarence House office as saying, “These are long-standing invitations.”

Camilla’s busy day will include attending a school harvest festival near Birkhall, her Scottish home.

Princess Eugenie, Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson reportedly tried to convince Duchess Camilla to attend the wedding which was scheduled eight months ago, according to The Sun, but weren’t able to change her mind.

“Eugenie and her parents wanted her to change her mind. But Camilla said she had a prior commitment and couldn’t,” said one insider.

Another royal insider said that the Duchess regretted that she couldn’t make the nuptials, but that the Royal Family were understanding of the situation

“The family understood, particularly Eugenie, and were fine about it owing to her previous commitment,” said the insider. “Camilla didn’t want to let anyone down.”
