Best in show: The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show has begun
More than 1,000 dogs are currently lodging in hotels around Madison Square Garden for this year’s 139th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
With mid-February the slow period for local hotels, they’ve gone all out in efforts to attract these coveted canine guests. The Manhattan NYC has turned Room VIPaws Suite for the 297 dogs they're hosting this year. The room features a big television playing dog shows, padded armchairs, treats, and an outdoor area with a specially treated plastic turf and single potted bush.
The New Yorker Hotel, which is housing 100 dogs, offers grooming stations and dog treadmills. Pooches can also order room service from the hotel’s Tick Tock Diner, which includes meals like steaks and hamburgers.
The massive Hotel Pennsylvania in Midtown, which is hosting 600 canine competitors, has installed special areas with plastic fire hydrants and set up a “Best in Show” prize. It is also the venue for a dog fashion show and the annual Dog Writers Association of America awards banquet.
And no, it’s no doghouse at all. These are champions, after all.
