Viewers slam new “I’m a Celeb” contestants: “You’ve hit rock bottom”

This season of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia has seen plenty of controversy, but the program’s latest intruders have led viewers to lash out against Channel 10, claiming the network has “hit rock bottom”.

Billed as “Australia’s most dysfunctional couple,” last night’s new contestants were revealed as none other than One Nation co-founder David Oldfield and his Real Housewives of Sydney star wife Lisa.

To say fans of the show were unimpressed would be an understatement.

“David Oldfield was a vile racist on SBS’ First Contact,” wrote Australian media personality Andrew Mercado on Twitter. “Since then he has been rewarded with another reality show (Hell’s Kitchen on Seven) and now ANOTHER gig on #ImACelebrityAU. How could you Ten? So not watching anymore.”

And Mercado certainly wasn’t the only viewer threatening to jump ship after the network’s latest stunt.

The announcement that the Oldfields will be entering the South African jungle comes after days of speculation and despite Lisa telling the Kyle and Jackie O show there was no truth to the rumours.

“Look, I’ll be honest, they asked,” she confessed. “But I don’t even have a valid passport … Maybe next year.”

Tell us in the comments below, will you be tuning in to see how the Oldfields fare in the jungle?
