Besides cleaning, a simple bar of soap can double-up to do these 9 things around the house.

Unstick zippers

Rub dry bar against the teeth of zippers to grease the zipper enough to move. When zipper is unstuck and unzipped, rub soap again on the zipper to prevent further sticking.

Use up leftovers

Make the most out of your soap by sticking the leftover sliver to an old soap part on top of a new bar.

Get rid of smells

Place a wrapped bar of soap in the clothes drawers, dirty laundry or shoes to get rid of smelly odours.

Sewing aid

Don’t use chalk to map out your lines on clothing items. Draw lines with a bar of soap for hem as it washes out more easily than chalk.

Insect repellent

Mix soap flakes with water in spray bottle to create a homemade bug replant.

Screw nails easily

Rub screws and nails with soap to help them enter wood with ease.

Smooth sawing

Rub soap on blade of saw to make sawing wood easier.

Detect leaks

Smear wet soap on pipes to find a suspected leak. If the soap bubbles, you have a gas leak.
