Two earthquakes rock Queensland
Two earthquakes hit the small Queensland town of Eidsvold early this morning, with the largest measured at 5.2 magnitude. Just 45 minutes after this first earthquake, a magnitude 2.9 shook the region.
It has been estimated that people up to 206km away could have felt the earthquakes, and that damage could have been caused up to 16km away. No damage has been reported as yet, but the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has sent is Rapid Damage Assessment Team to the area as a precaution.
People took to social media to share their experiences, with many claiming their whole house was shaking. One Facebook user, however, called the tremors “very gentle”.
Aftershocks could be felt in the upcoming days, but usually become smaller and less frequent over time. Another large earthquake in the days to come cannot be ruled out.
